Just learned the lovely words MULTIBIBA - a female great drinker, and MEROBIBA -female drinker of unmixed wine, both from Plautus. I feel seen.

To this list of dramatic drinking terms should be added COMPOTRIX, a female drinking companion (Ter. Andr. 232). A key member of any good party (or conspiracy!). #AncientBlueSky #ClassicsBlueSky

Delightful news: I have been appointed Departmental Lecturer in Roman History at Merton College, University of Oxford. I look forward to engaging with lovely new colleagues and students. My deepest thanks to my family, mentors, and friends, without whose support none of this would be possible.

As a member of this project, I can attest to the terrible tragedy that has hit communities in Thessaly, and the astounding generosity and braveness of the locals. Without them we would still be stranded or worse. We owe them our lives. My heart goes out to them as they deal with this devastation.
