A hundred years ago, the Seine was declared too polluted to swim in. Today, it’s open again. A reminder that with investment and political will, rivers can be brought back to life. In the end, it’s a choice. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Grateful for your kind words, Inger, and for all @unep.org does to champion ocean protection. Thank you! 🌊🙏💙
He did it! 50 years after the iconic movie Jaws was released, @lewispugh.bsky.social has completed #TheSharkSwim around the island of Martha’s Vineyard. We at @unep.org are very grateful for all Lewis does as UNEP Patron of the Oceans to champion greater conservation efforts to #SaveOurOceans.
I’ve just completed #TheSharkSwim 🏊♂️🦈📣 12 days & 59 miles around Martha’s Vineyard, where Jaws was filmed 50 years ago. It's been one of the toughest swims of my life. Cold water, relentless wind, big waves and the constant thought of what might be beneath me. But I swam here for a reason 👇
Today I reached the Jaws Bridge — probably the most iconic landmark from the film 🦈🌉 50 years on, it’s striking how much has changed, how little has, and how much still needs to. 53 miles in the bag. 5 to go. #TheSharkSwim
The finish line is in sight! I’ll complete #TheSharkSwim tomorrow (May 26th), between 10:30–11:00, at the Edgartown Harbor Lighthouse. If you’re nearby, I’d love to see you there! Thank you for your support 🏊♂️🙏
Thank you to @thegef.bsky.social for supporting us on #TheSharkSwim. We’re so grateful for your commitment to protecting our oceans 🌊🦈🌍 #30x30
How do you make up for lost days in bad weather? You swim at nautical twilight. The sea is pitch black. No horizon. No reference points. It’s deeply unsettling in these waters - but the distance has to be covered 🏊♂️🌌 #TheSharkSwim
You can’t negotiate with nature. On Day 8, I barely managed 2 km in brutal conditions. Yesterday, with the wind and tide finally on my side, I swam 13.2 km. Exactly the breakthrough I needed - with just 3 days to go 🌊🏊♂️🦈 #TheSharkSwim
It’s not the cold that breaks you in a single swim. It’s the cold that returns. Again and again. Relentless 🏊♂️🥶🦈 #TheSharkSwim
Sharks are essential for marine biodiversity. Here’s how: 🦈 They regulate fish populations 🐟 They prevent prey species from overgrazing habitats 🌿 They protect coral reefs and seagrass beds 🌊 They keep marine food webs in balance Happy #BiodiversityDay! #TheSharkSwim

Cold water. Strong winds. Big waves. #TheSharkSwim isn’t about a single challenge – it’s the relentless grind of facing them all.
“It is madness. It is an ecocide.” That’s what I told CBC News about the scale of shark slaughter – approximately 274,000 are killed every day. Please read 🦈👇 #TheSharkSwim www.cbc.ca/radio/asitha...

Yesterday on #TheSharkSwim, Lewis covered 2.9 miles (4.63 km), swimming into strong headwinds the entire way. Conditions were rough – just look at that water! 🌊💨
Day 4 of #TheSharkSwim was a tough one. From the first stroke, I was swimming straight into a strong headwind. In 2 hours, I barely covered 5 km. Didn’t help that below me, it was hard to tell what was a rock, what was a shadow, and what might have been something else 🌊🏊♂️
