21 August 2021 5 years ago today, Anfield witnessed its first game with full attendance following the COVID-19 pandemic. Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane put their names on the scoresheet, while Mohamed Salah had a goal ruled out for offside in a 2-0 win v Burnley. It felt so refreshing to be there again!

21 Aug 1976. Following a 1-0 win v Southampton in the Charity Shield a week prior, Liverpool FC beat Norwich 1-0 to start their League campaign in style. Steve Heighway struck the winner for the Reds, while David Johnson made his debut. Does anyone know how that season unfolded? Asking for a friend.

Ian Rush scored past Ray Clemence in the first half of the game and gave Liverpool FC a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur when the two teams clashed at Wembley in the Charity Shield on 21 August 1982. Three Reds made their debuts 26 years ago today, that is on 19 August 2000. Markus Babbel and Nick Barmby played full 90 minutes, while Gary McAllister entered the pitch for the final 25 minutes of a home 1-0 win over Bradford City. Emile Heskey scored the winner for Liverpool that afternoon.

Dirk Kuyt signed from Feyenoord on 18 August 2006. Kuyt was an endless source of energy, notching 71 times in 285 outings, including our consolation in the Champions League Final in Athens in 2007 and five derby strikes.

Ian Rush re-signed for the Reds from Juventus for a club record £2.8m on 18 August 1988, having only spent one season with the Turin giants. Rush scored 207 goals in 331 appearances in his first spell at Liverpool and added 139 in 329 games in his second phase at the club.
