Since it's been a couple of days, I just wanted to say that I handled the Avatar situation in probably the worst way imaginable, and I apologize. It doesn't matter what my intentions were; I should have just kept my mouth shut until we had all the facts. Below you can read my further thoughts.

As most of you know by now, at San Diego Comic Con, the Avatar panel had a slide that cited ChatGPT for cultural research regarding Tagah’s design. At first, it became clear to me that the crew was vehemently against AI, and I wanted to clear things up for people, but instead - I just made things so much worse.

First of all: When I said the “misinformation” was disheartening, I was referring specifically to the narrative that people had run with on social media that the entire film was poisoned by its use. At the time, things were still unclear. I just used the crew’s stance against AI, and their testimony regarding the film’s production and the slide at SDCC, as proof that the film was not touched by AI. I claimed it was “some jackass” without truly knowing who was responsible.

I handled this in the worst way imaginable, and instead - I just looked like I was claiming “misinformation” to defend something and downplay what we knew at the time, which ultimately made me look like a jackass politician when the truth became clear.

Despite the crew being vehemently against AI (and I fully believe that), it was soon revealed that an artist did use ChatGPT early on in the film’s development, but that their true feelings toward the technology quickly became clear as time went on, and that the film was still entirely crafted by humans. I personally still believe that, but I also understand the fierce apprehension to that now that we know the truth, and people should be free to draw their own conclusions. No one wants to give an inch when it comes to generative AI, because companies will take a mile.

Ultimately, I just wanted to take accountability for my actions, and my own, wholly ironic spreading of misinformation. I am deeply sorry. I promise you: No one has been as hard on me as myself these past couple of days, and I’m writing this in an effort to hold myself accountable. I thought I had learned that lesson, but if I’ve repeated the same mistake - I clearly haven’t.

Pretty huge find during production of the GBA video - a complete-in-box copy of Astro Boy: Omega Factor. One of my favourite games on the console, and as a huge Astro Boy and Osamu Tezuka nut - being able to own this forever is a delight. The EB Games sticker is annoying, but nostalgic.

Ironically, I have spread misinformation. It was not "some jackass," it was actually a character artist early on in the film's development. I apologize. I think this is a nuanced situation, especially considering how long the film was in production and how the artists quickly came to be against AI

Update on this situation from our incredible PD Jake who is more qualified to speak on this than I. This is the last time I will be posting about this- thanks everyone for supporting our artists.

Update from recording for the GBA video: Finally started playing the ORIGINAL Chain of Memories. It's crazy to me how much more enjoyable the card system is in its original form. The PS2 remake is a hodge-podge of two completely disparate games, but this one is incredibly fun. Hard to put down.

I am choosing to believe some dumbass intern put the ChatGPT bit in regarding his design. Call it a coping mechanism, but until we get a definitive statement, I just find it extremely difficult to believe the team actually asked ChatGPT what South Asian people look like.

I dont know if this is brazen or it has just become so normalized that people who use the stuff don't see it anymore but the text that opens the final paragraph on the right on the big slides for your sdcc presentation is WILD

According to chatgpt written in the Avatar movie presentation.

Still working on the GBA video, but I've been playing Avatar Legends with my friends and I am losing my mind over how fun this game is. This was a dream game of mine, and playing it for myself, AND seeing the awesome interactions, combos and little details on social media has been magical.

I know I'm probably just getting older and growing out of the bs zoomer vocab but I heard a friend say Rex from Xenoblade 2 was "a gooner larping as a chad" and I withered away in an instant. ...To be fair, he's got a true.

It's time for another console retrospective! This time, I'd like you all to let me know what some of your favourite Game Boy Advance games are. It doesn't matter how obscure; I will look into as many as I can!

The team sent me a code for this game. It's incredible. It has that "Pro Skater" hook at its core that makes it intrinsically compelling to play, no matter what you are doing, and it feels both comically and earnestly punk in every way. I highly recommend Denshattack!!!
