Egyptian gods, Roma stereotypes, seven centuries of "Assassin" myth. Reading VTM's Ministry, Ravnos, and Banu Haqim through Edward Said's Orientalism, and asking what renaming a clan actually fixes (and what it doesn't). New long-form piece on the blog. #TheRPGGazette #VTM #WorldOfDarkness #TTR

Orientalism and Vampire: The Masquerade – the Ministry, the Ravnos, and the Banu Haqim

The opening chapter of Edward Said's Orientalism is an unassuming statement: "the Orient" that features in Western works of art, scholarship and politics is not a place at all. The Orient was, and is still today, a discourse, an array of representations made in the West about the East which reveal more about Western neuroses and ambitions than anything actually pertaining to the peoples being represented.
