I love a portrait where the subject is obviously deep in contemplation or there is a story there for what they might be thinking. The eyes are not engaging directly to you so you have options to imagine what the scenarios is. Capture a model dreaming and it’s immediately a much more interesting pose for me. I. This one Louisa is sat on a set of drawers that were in front of the wi Dow in her bedroom and we cleared the top and then she just jumped up and sat in the window. I was able to get space by standing in the doorway and using a long lens to get very little distortion in the picture.

I really like that you can post sets of pictures to showcase more the creativity of the model because once I’m set up, you can see how Aliah has chosen different poses and I’ve just captured them as she has the freedom to do what she feels. The only thing is I don’t think it’s as effective to post as a set in the feed so I’ve added the rest of the set in the comments. Aliah was doing modeling for fun and as a hobby and had never really worked in a studio like this before , in fact I’ve not seen her active since so maybe it put her off for life 😅 !! But she was really creative and I think really blossomed when she had the chance. She always added her own touch to each pose.

If you are not viewing these on a computer , I’d strongly recommend turning the phone 90 degrees and looking at them in the landscape view because I think they are much more striking that way ….

All done with natural light only , the window is behind me and the camera settings highlighted just the light in Sylvia’s body and then with editing the background was darkened even further. Sylvia is actually lying on a table and her hair is falling down , and then we have turned the picture upside down to produce the affect of her hair flying.
This picture actually ended up on the wall of a hairdresser that saw it and wanted it for their Salon along with a few other of our black and white pictures.

Almost like a magazine cover , Charlotte sits in the bay of the window wearing just an oversized jumper and the light softly paints down one side
The great thing about the blinds is that you can use them to control the amount of light shining in. Charlotte was a friend of another model I was shooting with and she tagged along to have a holiday in Amsterdam but I took the opportunity and asked her do some work haha 😆

This portrait of Amber and Charlotte was done from standing on a chair with the two of them staring up at the camera. There are beautiful catchlights from the windows in both of their eyes as they both look straight at you. no flash or additional lighting was needed it’s just the windows … I quite like to throw in a portrait or two just to keep life interesting and see who is concentrating ..🤪

I think this is one of the sets and shoots I’m actually most proud of. It was such a different concept for me and yet I feel it’s one where I met the challenge and between Jake and myself we created something different. I always of course love simplicity but also Jake is one of the most expressive people I have had the pleasure to work with. Literally he told stories with his posing. His imagination in that sense is very special.
