not to sound like boss baby guy rn but one of my favorite things about sam raimi's spider man 1 is the final confrontation with green goblin because i love how it reframes norman osborne and the green goblin as a whole imo it challenges the read of norm and gob as these entirely disparate entities

thank god for the one friend I have that sends me fanart they find on tumblr that they know I’ll like I don’t browse on social media so when I’m in crunch mode and I finally get back to my phone it feels like being a working husband coming home to a fresh cooked meal

i definitely have gell-mann amnesia for youtubers' opinions on video games there's plenty of creators whose video essays on like classic video games I will take wholeheartedly and smile and nod about and then as soon as they lavish praise on a trendy 5/10 horror movie i have to look away and grimace

when I first went to shedd aquarium years ago they had this interactive fish statue with a sign next to it that said “see what’s inside my head” and when you looked in the little peephole it just had text that said “fat!” and I was genuinely devastated when i went back this year and it was gone

in a weird way I think fixating on the theme of fatherhood in Frankenstein has prevented us from getting an adaptation that feels truly faithful to the novel the emotional arc of the monster is a lot more complex and fascinating than a troubled parent/child relationship

i am really fortunate i work in an industry where it is not socially acceptable for your coworkers to send you ai generated images genuinely i dont think i could keep it together and be polite id probably have a better reaction to someone sending me an image of roadkill

starship troopers probably has my favorite depiction of the internet in a movie both for how oddly prescient (you could say "prophetic" it was) about evolving technology being used for the same propaganda, but also because i think "would you like to know more?" in that voice to myself a lot

obviously I think movies and culture around you can influence you but I do think it’s interesting when people claim that movies are trying to brainwash them, because I feel like if you watch things actively that’s not really an issue kind of says something about how you engage with things

I will say, I’d be curious to hear people’s thoughts on if this is a good intro to GITS. I’m coming at this as a person who has GITS:innocence memorized line for line, and this first episode did feel pretty brisk, so I’m curious to hear what new viewers think+if they could follow along

first thoughts on new ghost in the shell: pleasantly impressed with how different the tone feels from previous GITS adaptations, while still teasing the ability to slow down and have suspenseful moments—that said it felt a little fast, im hoping it eventually settles and finds a groove
