after unimaginable loss looking to help create safe streets

anyone running for Alder and Mayor in Chicago… this should be required listening a sensible easy to digest commentary about geometry, efficiency, and why urban space does not work well with a car focused hierarchy we need Politicians that want to learn not sway with the prevailing winds

The War on Cars@thewaroncars.bsky.social · yesterday

New episode up! We talk with transit planner Jarrett Walker, author of the recently reissued classic Human Transit, about why buses are so great, how we can make them better, & how advocates should fight for public transit in a hostile federal funding environment. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/h...

the wee man is in full mimic mode, as is the life of a 2 ish yo. current play is a reusable bag over the shoulder while riding his inside bike up and back down our hallway. this is good modeling 🙂

it would be nice if reporters like @sashaannsimons.bsky.social read up on the Complete Streets Chicago Ordinance to push back on those candidates that only speak about bike lanes it’s embarrassing to watch the car voices drown out good policy is it an editorial choice to spin a garbage narrative?

had a good conversation with a staff member, aka unloaded on them, talking about the short sighted nature of bending the knee to this 2not1 ideology and how the only path forward for growth in our city is supporting a multimodal transit, bike, ped infra to create transportation options.

Papa Rides a Bike@paparidesabike.bsky.social · yesterday

Susana Mendoza just slammed the Archer Av. bike lanes as a debacle that has made traffic worse, saying that Archer used to be a great shortcut & a fast thoroughfare. On @wbez.org with @sashaannsimons.bsky.social Anyone who has ever traveled on Archer knows this is BS. It's always been a car sewer

the look of anger you get from a driver that has drifted into to the contra flow lane right at you that has caused you to wildly gesticulate and yell as you are trying to back away in between parked cars… 👨🏻‍🍳💋

took my lil dude out this am for a weather walk. donned our Cleverhoods, put on some shoes to get wet, went out in search of puddles to jump in and drains to clear almost 2 is such a fun age

chatting about the Chicago Complete Streets Ordinance & hearing that Alders are concerned abt burning political capital to support a unanimous ordinance for city wide safety & efficiency improvements around transportation is how rotten discourse has become this problem is self inflicted

weird to have a super fan that follows me around posting links to our tragedy do they think that showing our loss makes me an unsympathetic character? i mean what dad would not advocate for making roads safer after a loss just creepy

imagine running for office against a safe streets/transit efficiency ordinance passed into law 48-0 after 3 children were killed that has been shown to reduce crash, injury, death stats while shop revenue, transit, cycling numbers increase. that’s what we are going to see this year in Chicago

When folks gripe about new transit, bike, pedestrian infrastructure I’m simply going to respond with “It’s the law, passed in 2023, that states that CDOT has to build these things in their resurfacing plans.” tired of the community meetings and Alder prerogative getting in the way of this work

more convinced than ever the reason Illinois is against the Idaho Stop is because our drivers are so used to the California Roll an entire city of drivers that feels that 6-10 rolled 🛑 is a 🛑 are not going to enjoy being asked to stop to accommodate cyclists granted the privilege of rolling

why do drivers always feel the need, in a discussion about bad/dangerous/driving or a municipality attempt to reign in such behaviour, to talk about cyclists and the issues they have with them. as if pointing out a 🚲= 🚗 in these moments negates physics and 40,000+ deaths a year due to 🚗 policy

drivers spend endless time talking about how bikes are inferior in every way to cars not as fast not as much cargo can’t travel far no protection but will also go out of their way to demand we be treated just like cars for the rules of the road are we cars or are we not?

20min bike ride along Greenways and a park to arrive at work… drivers don’t know what they are missing i get it, living near work is a luxury for some. we intentionally chose for transit/ride ability. not having a car, let alone 2, payment has allowed us to live in these spaces.

imagine being on FB arguing against bike lanes & chasing me around showing a story about us like my dude, you look like a weak bully when your only 2 comebacks are highlighting our story which is why i advocate & “you don’t live here in this ward” but it’s a city (continent) wide problem

❤️ the DOT is lying to manipulate DOT/EMS/Engineering reports! but you should trust our unscientific poll based on misinformation, half truths, opinion/feelings before project completion put together by a small group looking for a wedge issue all over the world safe streets initiatives save lives

Chicago Mac starts today, the 200 boats will race up the lakefront to a buoy off Montrose before spreading out across the lake. Starts between 11 and 1, Montrose maybe 1-3 fast boats start last not like anyone needs an excuse to go to the Lakefront

missing you Bean, know that your passing was not forgotten. that week that you and 3 others left us was a motivating moment for so much of the past few years of safety improvements and enforcement don’t park in the bike lane

During today’s @chicagocta.bsky.social Transit Board Meeting Acting President Nora Leerhsen announced CTA is increasing from 6 camera equipped buses to 52 buses which will be able to ticket or issue warnings for bus & bike lane parking. See 1hr 31min 28sec

hah, we have an e-bike now I planned on using it Thursday for efficiency in movement for a busy day of getting around… wife was too, with the wee man me going acoustic for my busy day to allow W&K to enjoy e-bike guess we need another?

a driver that uses “bike lanes cause congestion & increase emissions from cars” can’t see the changes that are slowing them down transit efficiency ped/cyclist safety will create alternate modes of transportation to lower emissions amazing watching them call their choice out

dude rolling through a 🛑 barely missing a tbone with a large pickup that did 🛑 when asked why he didn’t 🛑 “sorry I’m having a bad day”

95 miles over the long weekend rode to parade with the wife & kid up front, grabbed coffee with the wee man after a forest cruise some curious glances in the burbs

BMW 5 series across entire Lincoln Square PBL, fella running from Augusta with bottle of wine, me ringing my bell, this is a very obvious bike lane FU you bikers never follow the law so because you “feel” something you decide it’s okay to be a jerk Don’t block the bike lane

driver going at least 15mph through 3way 🛑 stopped after i raised my hands in exasperation to tell me he stopped then another turned right through 🛑 sign close enough for me, the pedestrian in the crosswalk, to touch their car BAN E-BIKES!!!!
