Here is all 30 players on the AVCA National Player of the Year Watch List. Position breakdown: 11 OH, 7 S, 6 OPP, 4 MB, 2 L Players can be added in October and semifinalists will be announced in November. Finalists will be released Dec. 14 with the award given out Dec. 18

Here is the final group of 10 for the AVCA National Player of the Year Watch List, including 2x POY Olivia Babcock and her new setter Izzy Starck from Pitt. Purdue has 3 players on the list including Elkhorn North grad Grace Heaney. Louisville and Texas A&M also have 2 included.

Stanford is the preseason pick to win the league by the ACC coaches. It received 10 first-place votes, 3 more than second-place Pitt. Louisville picked up one in 3rd place. The Cardinal also led the way with 5 preseason all-conference selections. Louisville had 4 and Pitt had 3 players included.

Nebraska was the unanimous pick by the coaches to win the Big Ten Conference for the fourth straight year. The Huskers went 20-0 last season and only dropped one set in league play. NU is followed by Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue and Minnesota.

The Huskers placed three players on the 19-player preseason all-conference team. S Bergen Reilly, OH Harper Murray and MB Andi Jackson were all unanimous selections. Penn State's Kennedi Martin was the only other unanimous pick. Purdue also had three all-conference selections.

The second batch of players on the AVCA Player of the Year Watch List includes four from Kentucky, which is the most of any school, and a pair from Stanford and Wisconsin. The final group of 10 will be unveiled on Friday.

Kentucky edged Texas by two points in the preseason SEC poll. The Wildcats received 9 first-place votes, while UT picked up 6. Reigning NCAA champion Texas A&M got the final one. UK also dominated the 15-player All-SEC preseason team with 5 selections. Texas and Florida had 2 honorees.

Nebraska places three seniors on the AVCA Player of the Year watch list: outside hitter Harper Murray, middle blocker Andi Jackson and setter Bergen Reilly. They are joined by seven others in the first group of 10. The remaining groups will be released on Thursday and Friday.

While construction finishes up at the Devaney Center, the Red-White scrimmage is moving to Pinnacle Bank Arena this year. The match will be Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. Tickets for the scrimmage as well as the Sept. 16 match against Creighton go on sale Thursday, July 30.

The United States U19 win the gold medal at the Norceca Continental Championship with a 7, 16, 20 sweep over Canada. Ireland Real led the US with 8 kills while Ava Burgess put up 5 kills, 2 blocks and 3 aces. Nejari Crooks and Olivia Henry each had 7 kills.

The U19 team is headed to the gold medal match with a 16, 12, 10 sweep over Puerto Rico at the Norceca Continental Championship in Costa Rica. Ireland Real led the way with 9 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces. Megan Hodges added 5 kills and 3 blocks while Brynn Stephens had 4 K, 1B, 2A.

The top-seeded United States falls in the VNL quarterfinals to China, dropping the fifth set 15-13. Jordan Thompson led the US with 24 points. Dana Rettke added 18 while Logan Eggleston had 14. Lexi Rodriguez had a 61 percent passing percentage and 6 digs.

We will crown a volleyball national champion five months from today. The first semifinal will start at 5:30 pm in San Antonio on Thursday, Dec. 17. The second follow 30 minutes the first one concludes. The title match is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 20 at 2:30 pm.
