Our latest publication seems to have drawn some new followers! So I’d like to use the opportunity to share what our lab studies (beyond attention & inflammation). We study how what goes on in our minds can shape what happens in our bodies, and ultimately, our physical health.

Okay I read a lot of papers about voluntary attention and that's the wildest title I've read for a while 😵 Gonna block out some time and get my teeth into this ASAP. Looking forward to it!

🔥🔥New paper alert! Super excited to share our paper, out today in @nathumbehav.nature.com, led by the wonderful Dr. Nofar Mizrachi! nature.com/articles/s41... To me, this finding fundamentally changes how we should think about the relationship between cognition and immune regulation:

Cool work showing that directing internal attention to a felt inflammatory experience (but not looking at it) reduces inflammation.. & that this attention may = ⬆️HRV (mindful breathing perhaps?) Seems that pain/sensation is an important part of this attention-seeking process, too #interoception

This is remarkable. "we show that directing attention towards bodily sensations, compared to attentional distraction, produces markedly more regulated immune responses"

Proud to share our lab's latest publication! This study provides, to our knowledge, the first prospective evidence that prolonged war exposure affects not only civilians' mental health, but also their *everyday physical health* by comparing the same individuals before and during war.

How war shapes daily physical health – A unique pre-post dataset

Despite the established link between trauma and physical health, no prior study has prospectively tracked changes in physical health before and during…

What an exciting day! I'm super proud to celebrate our lab's very first PhD student, Nofar Mizrachi's, graduation! Huge congrats, Nofar!! Beyond the great science and insightful chats, it's been a pleasure building the lab together and accompanying you as you grow into an outstanding scientist 🎓✨

Two weeks ago, together with Hanna Keren, we held the first National Brain-Body Axis Discovery Day! Our goals included bringing brain-gut, neuroimmune and interoception researchers in the same room, and building a brain-body resreach community. It was an inspiring and exciting day!

Had a terrific time at #ILANIT/FISEB hosting & speaking at #BrainBody #homeostasis symp. Fascinating talks by Galia Avidan, Dori Dredikman,Evan Elliott, Neta Gazit, Megan Sammons + 5 great flash talks. The cherry on top: a breath-taking, awe-inspiring keynote lecture by @michellemonje.bsky.social!

Brain-Body Research in on fire 🔥 🤓 I'm chairing "Brain-body interactions for maintaining homeostasis in humans and animal models" at #ILANIT/FISEB Conference together with Or Shahar + presenting our lab's recent findings. Join us! Thursday; 08:30-10:15; Dan Hotel - Tarshish B #ilanit/FISEB

A couple of weeks ago, our lab meeting involved watercolors, brushes and canvas. We put on some jazz music and painted, while chatting and snacking (fresh fruits, vegetables, and some zaatar pitas :)). Really enjoyed it. Felt like an unexpectedly powerful mental reset. #beliefslab

The goal of a PhD is not to learn some facts or read a few papers or learn a bunch of techniques. The goal of a PhD is to learn independence, problem solving, how to finish things you start, resilience, & gain the ability to adapt & think creatively. Learning these things is hard.

A huge milestone for the lab, and for me personally! Thank you Israel Science Foundation #ISF for supporting our research on #nocebo effects in everyday life. We'll examine how health perceptions causally shape physical health outcomes, and study the physiological mechanisms involved. #beliefslab
