It's been a busy couple of weeks since Parliament went into summer recess. Here's a quick roundup of what I've been up to this week: 🏳️🌈 Proudly marched at Stockport Pride. Following the tragic attack at Berlin Pride the night before, it was a powerful reminder of why we still need Pride.

As a non-snooker player, the welcoming and accepting No Tier Snooker Club was a great introduction. Designed for people with dementia, the club in Hazel Grove has a wonderful approach to just letting people get on and enjoy themselves. You can find our more at notiersnooker.co.uk/locations/ha...
Thank you to the Hazel Grove Army Veterans for meeting with me yesterday. I have spent a considerable time with the armed forces recently with the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. With all the instability in the world, we must prepare our armed forces well, and look after our veterans better.

Thanks to Shan and Colin, two of our Marple South and High Lane councillors, at Make It Marple at the weekend. I dropped in for a while, and will be attending as much as I can over the summer Parliamentary recess. Drop my office a line if you have something going on #LisaSmartMP #constituency
I was on Radio Manchester this morning being asked about the impact that the new Prime Minister will have. While it's clearly too early to say, I want the best for our country, and so I hope that that this is an improvement on the Government that we have had under Keir Starmer. youtu.be/OsHrru3xjWY

Postal votes are now landing with people - and you have two choices. I’m backing Richard Kilpatrick. But you can also use your second choice vote as a backup, for example to make sure that an extreme candidate doesn’t get in. 🔶🗳️1️⃣➕
It’s been another busy week in Parliament and, while Westminster has been full of distractions, I’ve stayed focused on getting things done. This week I: 📈 Marked two years since I was elected to Parliament and hit 20,000 local issues raised with my office.
I was invited recently by RUSI – a UK defence and security think tank – to debate the influence of foreign investment and cryptocurrency on our democracy. It is vital for our national security that we ensure that our country is better protected from overseas influence in our politics.
Pensioners have contacted me over Capita's failings on their civil service pensions contract. Failing to deal with cases, particularly bereavement cases, is leaving pensioners without the certainty they deserve. youtu.be/mQAQX01BrLI

This week, I challenged the Minister for Democracy (and too many other unrelated topics) to do more to address foreign donations, and to limit the influence of extreme wealth on our politics. Our democracy is precious, and it must be protected. #LisaSmartMP youtu.be/6KSoprt8GM4

Cases like this, where a resident got in touch about being a "DES daughter" are very specialist, but being able to raise it directly with the Minister is very important. #LisaSmartMP #NHS #SteppingHill #Health Read the full exchange at hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2026...

Stockport missed out on additional funding this year by just 0.1%, despite having the most deprived area in Greater Manchester. I stood up in a debate this week to make it clear that I don't agree with the Government's decision. #LisaSmartMP #constituency #support Full debate: buff.ly/y90BeUT
In a debate this week on regeneration for Reddish, I challenged the minister over the Government's failure to fund social care, which means that local councils, such as Stockport, do not have the money to spend on other essentials. #LisaSmartMP #constituency #support Full debate buff.ly/jqjDKsw
Good to see progress being made on the renovation of the play area at Woodbank Park.
It was a busy weekend this weekend. My MP surgery, which gives me the chance to speak to local residents face to face about individual issues; Greenstock at Woodbank Park; and then over to the Mellor Church Fete. Hazel Grove constituency covers a large area, and it's great to see so much of it.
It is the anniversary of the equal franchise – and we're approaching the 100th anniversary in 2028. Parliament is making steps towards better representation of everyone, and long may that work continue. #LisaSmartMP #HazelGrove #Westminster #Parliament
Parliamentary time is always a balancing act, but where possible, finding out more about disorders such as Pica is important, particularly as I know there are residents in Hazel Grove who have affected children. #LisaSmartMP #Health #Pica
Despite the warm weather, it was another busy week. Last week I… 🗣️ Joined Cllrs Niki Meerman and Joe Barratt at Woodley Precinct Market to chat about issues affecting our community. 🏫 Visited Ludworth Primary School, where pupils put me through my paces, asking how laws are made.
Tomorrow is the final day of the Ova the Hills walk, due in to Romiley around 3pm, where there will be a BBQ and music in the square. The team have so far raised an amazing £19k, smashing their £5k target, and you still have time to donate. fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/ova-the...

Thanks to the Stockport Samaritans, who were at Carnifest in Marple yesterday. What a great team.
