Every Australian should be able to identify a native Antechinus from a pest mouse. I've made this so it's really easy for any age to learn to tell them apart. Snap & percussion mouse traps kill them both. If you find an A. has been killed change to live catch mouse traps. @ausmammals.bsky.social

R is a pest mouse. Introduced. Invasive. Huge economic impact on Australia. In 2020-20 the NSW Farmers Association est losses of up to a BILLION $ due to mice. L is a native Antechinus. No cost to agriculture. Learn to ID the good guys & use live catch mouse traps so you can release the native.
Literally "breaking news" from last night. #Koalas may not be the sharpest tool in the biodiversity tool box of Australia but they are native, important, and a threatened species and I love having them pass through the garden. A dish is nothing to replace.
With temperatures due to reach the mid 30s in SW Victoria tomorrow, a lot of native wildlife will be heat stressed. Especially those Possums who rely on what they can drink the night before to get through a hot day hunkered in a tree hollow. A shallow dish under a tree does the trick.
What happens when you take away feral cats & Black rats? Fabulous unique Australian natives adopt you. Tuesday night a plump Agile Antechinus sussed the old cat trap meat. Mouse-sized native carnivores that hunt mice & insects. It will help keep our machinery shed & garden mouse-free.
Safer water project is doing EXACTLY what was hoped for. When a dead section of tree broke off I cut it flat and glued a large shallow dish to it so nocturnal mammals and birds can get a drink up higher in the canopy, safer from foxes and feral cats. Ring tailed possum.
