A judge has struck another ballot measure from Arizona's November ballot: HCR 2048, which would prohibit taking back scholarship money -- including ESA funds -- from the kids of military families. It would also invalidate, in its entirety, an ESA reform initiative set for the ballot this year.

State Rep. Ralph Heap, who is running for Arizona Corporation Commission, which sets utility rates, is under investigation over a campaign-finance complaint. And the allegations could disqualify him from receiving public campaign funding: www.abc15.com/news/local-n...

Corporation Commission candidate Ralph Heap faces campaign-finance investigation, blocked public funding

The Clean Elections Commission is investigating Arizona Corporation Commission state Rep. Ralph Heap after a complaint about his expenditures on campaign signs.

Arizona voters will see one fewer ballot measure in November: A judge has ruled HCR 2040, a measure aimed at restricting education unions, is unconstitutional. The Senate president and House speaker, both Republicans, were defending the measure, and the Senate spokesperson says they will not appeal.

SUPERIOR COURT OF ARIZONA
MARICOPA COUNTY

Intervenors' contextual interpretation is rejected. See Fann, at 1 61 (contextual analysis focusing on how the terms "act" and "measure" are used throughout the Arizona Constitution).

Reading subsection 11(G) in context with the Arizona Constitution, there is no ambiguity.
It flatly prohibits the State of Arizona or any local government from contracting with any labor union. As such -- and as Intervenors stipulate - its inclusion in HCR 2040 violates the Separate Amendment Rule.

When a proposed ballot measure violates the Separate Amendment Rule, severance of the
offending provision is not an option. The entire measure fails. Clean Elections Institute, Inc. v. Brewer, 209 Ariz. 241, 1 8 (2004).
Because the Court agrees with Plaintiffs' interpretation of HCR 2040, the Court does not reach Plaintiffs' alternative arguments, including whether the Act's title violates the Single Subject Rule.

I don’t think people quite realize how disruptive the pandemic was to journalism. Local coverage has been the biggest loser. News junkies have more options than ever with the rise of hyperlocal sports sites and independent journalists, but there’s a huge void for the general audience.

As a former Athletic writer, I strongly believe the pivot point was the pandemic. Before 2020, I do think the company goal really was to have exceptional local coverage everywhere. It was a point of pride that we had someone covering every team in the 4 major North American sports leagues.

AZ election update: The AP has called the Democratic primary in Congressional District 1 for Amish Shah, a doctor and former state lawmaker. He will face Jay Feely, a former NFL kicker, in November.

Look, I am a nerd of the highest level, and even I haven’t watched every single Marvel thing (lol Secret Invasion). I’ve been reading comics for 35 years and reading/writing fanfic for 30. But even I find the modern MCU exhausting. If they’re losing me, I can’t imagine how regular folks feel

Karen K. Ho@karenho.bsky.social · 2w ago

I think a real problem with the MCU is that many people don't have the time, energy or memory bandwidth to have watched all the preceding movies or understand the backstory of all the characters. They are the type of movie viewers who just want a few hours of fun escape and good storytelling.

The audio on this game (on Fox on DirecTV, at least) is so distracting. It randomly gets louder and then goes back down. I really notice it because I have my headphones on (look, I’m also at a baseball game haha)

This is why you just let Shakira do the World Cup song and call it a day (OK, I also enjoyed Madonna with my favorite mix of that song, but I also have been in love with her since I was like 7.

It’s 2:30 a.m. at the Arizona Capitol, and we’re entering hour 16 of the last day of the legislative session. The Arizona House has spent hours voting on two final ballot referrals.

Her answer is fascinating. The Vegas Golden Knights are notorious (and hated) for their ruthless approach to team management and for hiring Carter Hart, who one year ago was on trial for a sexual assault charge and is now the starting goaltender on the Western Conference Conference champions

In a Zoom press conference, PWHL Vegas GM
Dominique DiDia was asked about whether she would replicate the Golden Knights'
"aggressive" GM strategy.
DiDia said she wants to win, "but more importantly...our team is about character and working with good people that care about each other and align with our core values."
"Our goal is to be a winning franchise, but also play hockey the right way with integrity and care for each other as teammates."

And the most hated team in the NHL moves on to the Stanley Cup Finals by sweeping the best regular-season team. Honestly, I can’t decide if it’s more shocking that Vegas finally got their shit together or that Colorado fell so completely on their face.

The worst thing about this app is how so many people on here are obsessed with telling everyone why they think it’s bad people are on Bluesky. I don’t care! Go back to X, then! And everyone else, stop arguing with them! I just want to see skeets about baseball and hockey and books ffs
