Bit of politics 🌹 Bit of culture 🎭 Lots of cats 🐈‍⬛ Councillor for Knotty Ash & Dovecot Park | Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing & Culture | Liverpool City Council

Just had a brilliant meeting with my Aspire Liverpool hat on. The woman I met with was from Vermont and it immediately reminded me of probably one of my favourite places in the world we visited in 2023. Guilford Country Store & Cafe 🇺🇸… (1/3)

A huge thank you to Cllr Barbara Murray for inviting me to help launch Liverpool’s Year of Spoken Word. It was a fantastic event at Liverpool Central Library filled with literacy and culture organisations who do great work in our city

Was really pleased to support Cllr Simic in formulating and passing this motion on creative education last night. The Coalition Government deprioritised the arts in the 2014 National Curriculum and introduction of the EBacc. We must ensure all students can access creative industries!

Really excited about this cultural project that the council and Culture Liverpool has commissioned for our area. At the end of the residency, there will be a festival in Dovecot and some permanent public art. Find out more below 👇 liverpoolexpress.co.uk/your-dreams-...

Absolutely gutted to hear The Vivienne has died. Viv encapsulated british drag, with of course their scouse comedic streak. I’ll never forget her ode to Liverpool legend Pete Burns during her first runway on @dragraceukbbc. It made me proud to be scouse! What a star! Thanks, Viv ❤️

Come wind, rain or shine, or whatever the british weather throws at us, I’m out all year round across Knotty Ash & Dovecot Park. Nearly finished with my 2024 Christmas card delivery. Fabulous artwork from my 2024 competition winner, Penelope, from Dovecot Primary School🎄

The tide is starting to turn after 14 years of Liverpool being cut to the bone by Lib Dem/Tory Governments. It doesn’t solve all our issues, particularly given demand led pressures and previous saving targets, but a 9.5% increase in our core spending power is most welcome! 🙏🏻

Today we set out the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement worth £69bn with an extra £3.7bn for social care and a new £600m Recovery Grant directed to areas with higher deprivation. Fixing the foundations of local public services as part of our plan for change. www.gov.uk/government/n...

A Scouse spoken word artist has teamed up with others to produce a track based on conspiracy theorists and the confusion of modern life in the UK that’s now being played on national radio 1 Could it make an unlikely bid for Christmas number 1? www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpo...

Being a local Councillor means you don’t know what weekends are. Delivering Christmas cards around Dovecot today 🎄 Thank you to all the children at Dovecot Primary for taking part in my 2024 Christmas card competition! 🎅🏼

Annual Christmas lunch with my office buddies and friends from Classics for All 🎄 Really lucky to share an office at Liverpool College with Alice and Joanne. Both our organisations have had great collaborations that have been fruitful for the students we support 🧑‍🎓 👩‍🎓

What a great day launching our UN Accelerator City year for climate action. Lots of fantastic discussions and connections made! Liverpool has ambitious plans to show the world just how we can decarbonise the music, tv & film sector.

#News: Liverpool has made climate change history, as the world's first UN ‘Accelerator City’. UN officials bestowed the honour today, in recognition of the city's pioneering work, at the start of a special #climateaction conference. More: liverpoolexpress.co.uk/liverpool-ce... #BeTheChange

This can only be good news for Liverpool. Our Labour Government sticking to its promise to redistribute on a fair and equitable footing. Liverpool faced the deepest cuts during the Tory and of course Lib Dem coalition governments. www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

A very important City Council meeting last night discussing #education in the city. Here’s a snippet of me highlighting the need for us to address poverty and multi-generational disadvantage. We need to work together to raise aspirations for our young people.

Vital every child has the best start in life. Health equity means doing the right thing for those who need support. I’m proud that we’re able to support women with HIV in feeding their newborns. All part of our commitment to end new HIV transmissions by 2030 liverpoolexpress.co.uk/a-formula-fo...
