Safeguarding the health of our living oceans 🌊 by protecting coral reefs 🪸, restoring mangrove forests 🌳, and promoting ocean literacy 📚 around the world. #ScienceWithoutBorders 🌍

Why can one coral bleach while its neighbor doesn’t? 🪸 Species, genetics, previous heat exposure, symbiotic algae, depth, light, currents and local temperatures can all influence how a coral responds to heat stress. Corals are individuals—and they don’t all respond the same way. #CoralBleaching 🦑

Corals aren’t the only animals that bleach. 🪸🐠🦑 Many sea anemones also host microscopic algae called zooxanthellae. When environmental stress disrupts that relationship, anemones can lose their algae and turn pale or white—much like corals. 📷 Dani Escayola / Ocean Image Bank / The Ocean Agency

What do maritime safety and ocean conservation have in common? 🌊⚓ That connection brought us together with IFAN to create Navigate with Care, a campaign to promote safe and sustainable navigation, and the theme of this year's student art contest.

Bleaching corals don’t always turn white right away. 🪸 Some corals respond to losing their symbiotic algae by producing vivid fluorescent pigments that help protect their tissues from excess sunlight—almost like a natural sunscreen. #ForCoral 🦑 📷 Richard Vevers /The Ocean Agency / Ocean Image Bank

What happens when a coral bleaches? 🪸 When stressed, corals can lose the microscopic algae that provide much of their energy and color. This Coral Bleaching Awareness Month, we’re exploring the science of coral bleaching. Follow along to learn more. #ForCoral 📷 The Ocean Agency / Ocean Image Bank

The best measure of environmental education isn't just what students learn—it's how they feel about the experience afterward. Here are a few reflections from students who participated in this year's Bahamas Awareness of Mangroves (B.A.M.) program. 🌿

🌿 This year marks 10 years of the Bahamas Awareness of Mangroves (B.A.M.) program in Abaco! Thanks to a partnership with Friends of the Environment, we have helped hundreds of students explore mangroves through hands-on science, field activities, and environmental stewardship.
