For learning OpenGL, we recommend learnopengl.com. It has great explanations and plenty of examples for the basics and advanced techniques. We referenced it heavily when beginning our graphics programming journey years ago. #gamedev #indiedev
HandmadeCon 2015 interview with Pat Wyatt. Very inspirational. We hope to be a part of this legacy one day; great games made with great technology. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1faa... #gaming #gamedev #pcgaming
SDL Tip: If you have extra cycles/time in your game loop, use SDL_Delay/SDL_DelayNS to return them to the OS. Here is how we use it: wiki.libsdl.org/SDL3/SDL_Delay wiki.libsdl.org/SDL3/SDL_Del... #gamedev #indiedev
We plan on releasing our first game, "Bob Goes Quantum", on steam, itch, gog, and humble bundle. We are targeting native builds for Linux, Windows, and Mac. No release date just yet but hopefully EOY 2026. This is our first game, so scope creep will happen! #gaming
Our first game, "Bob Goes Quantum", is a puzzle game. Given we have many levels, an "overworld" is required to navigate between puzzles. Bob's house is the overworld! Mundane tasks such as going to the bathroom or swapping a toilet paper roll will trigger puzzles. #VideoGames
Our first game has been a long time coming, as we started various projects since 2017 that did not go anywhere. This time we will release something. And then start again. The joys of creating. #VideoGames #GameDev #IndieDev
There is a lot of noise out there. Especially in software. Some things we've come to understand as true after suffering for over a decade: 1. There are no silver bullets, only trade-offs. #Software #VideoGames #GameDev #IndieDev
We love to use constraints to our advantage. Our biggest constraint is time, unfortunately. "Let's see how much we can do in 1 hour" is a common tactic we use. We use this for new features. We tend to go from 0 - 50 quickly. Then iterate! #VideoGames #GameDev #IndieDev
We sleep easy at night. Most of the tools we use are open source: Linux, Ruby, Zig, SDL, Vim. #VideoGames #Linux #GamingOnLinux #GameDev #IndieDev
All the puzzles for our game, "Bob Goes Quantum", are first scribbled by hand on a piece of paper in meatspace. We then take the scribbles, translate them into our simple level format and load them in the game. Gameplay semantics come for free with the format. #videogames #gamedev #indie #indiedev
We have many levels and we forget solutions to the levels all the time. So we built a simple "solution framework". We record inputs for a solution and save them to a file for each level once and play them all back. Enjoy the programmer art #VideoGames #GameDev #IndieDev #Zig #GamingOnLinux #Linux
Local DB 1.0 is now for sale for $5. Check it out here: lastlightinteractive.com/tools/locali... Maybe this was bikeshedding, but at least we have a "production" tool to use ourselves! Now uhh back to making a game. #gamedev #software #indiedev
Hello wo- blue sky. Just launched website, and finishing up our first tool "Local DB", a Command Line tool for localization organization and translation. Check it out here: lastlightinteractive.com/tools/locali... Still finishing up the "store" so you can't buy it just yet.
