Today I travel to Scotland for KCD UK. I'm looking forward to meeting people there as much as I am excited about the actual programme of talks. I am giving a lightning talk myself, though, about a new thing linked to Kubernetes resource metadata. If you're at KCD UK yourself, come check it out.

Hi Edinburgh! 👋 KCD UK in Edinburgh 2026 runs Oct 19-20, with two days of Kubernetes & cloud native talks in Scotland's capital. Register: community2.cncf.io/events/detai...

What do folks think about partitioning hypervisors (that's where the exact host resources are divided up, so each CPU is linked to exactly one guest, no overcommitment)? It provides more isolation than a typical hypervisor and is more flexible than bare metal. I think those are settled facts.

Here's the thing about the safety consequences of AI models and of affordable inference. Probably nobody will do something with AI that, in one action, puts most humans at risk. Probably no AI will act as if self aware and decide to murder everyone. It's hard to quantify and manage those risks.

What if your container didn't need a filesystem? With FailFS, the Linux kernel is laying the groundwork to let a process not even see a / (root) directory. This new kernel feature could be super useful for sidecar containers that need to be highly isolated once they are started and healthy

New personal milestone: I have identified a symbol of the far right / violent paramilitaries, on social media (and reported it). This was LinkedIn FWIW, which has previously felt like a different kind of space.

Unusual effect from lightning / thunderstorm: a smart lighting panel turned on, and now won't turn itself off. I can still turn the brightness up and down over ZigBee, just not off. Gonna be tricky to fix, I think.

People are boosting x402 so that an AI agent can pay to find out the current weather, or an exchange rate, or something. I get why this is handy (agents are not reliable enough to run without guardrails on spend). For me the killer app is a CI run: I push code, and someone pays to have it tested.

Hey did y'all know that the Kubecon Program Committee's scoring rubric is public for you to see before you submit a talk, and that reviewers are specifically instructed to give one star for content and originality if the submission is clearly AI slop? Just something to think about for next year. :)

You'll know that a micropayment system is successful when you can pay a $5 fee to collect your $0.04 royalties to date, and have them converted to real money that you can pick up and fold.
