i think one of the few dutch traditions i feel any sort of pride about is transporting items that are too big to fit on a bike on a bike. a bakfiets patriot, if you will

our landlord had to be explained today that rent price regulation is binding rather than subjective, because she showed up to a legal hearing with "i object to the rent reduction because the new rent price is too low" hadn't looked into the law at all, didn't appear to know where she was. amateur.

something about owning a second house rots your brain lol. our landlord wants us out by next month even though that's several kinds of illegal (no grounds for termination, notice of termination must be given 3 months in advance)

the wikipedia article "Official Cantonese translations of English names for British officials" has a fairly long section about how one english governor got his name translated to toilet bowl and this motivated setting up a translation service for names

The 16th Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Reginald Stubbs, was first given a particularly distasteful Cantonese translation for his name. 史塔士 or Sí Taap Sí was the original Cantonese translation, literally meaning "history; a tower; a vassal". However, the first and the third characters of 史 and 士 share the same archaic pronunciation of the character 死 (sí), meaning "to die", and more troublesomely, the same pronunciation of the character 屎 (sí), meaning "shit".[10] Also, Cantonese speakers sometimes call a toilet bowl 屎塔 (sí taap), being homophones to the first two characters of his newly translated name.[5] Thus, Stubbs's first Cantonese name translation rendered a wide variety of somewhat unpalatable translations and interpretations, like "toilet bowl's shit", "shit tower's death" etc.[11]

writing what i hope is a scary enough letter to our landlord saying that based on 7:207 sub 2 Burgerlijk wetbook we're entitled to rent reduction and that it'd be nice for her to agree so we don't have to claim it via a the court/Huurcommissie

the EU making replacable battaries mandatory for electronics sold on the internal market from february 2027 onwards is nice, though in the short term a lot of companies might pull out because they don't wanna bother redesigning their shit to be repairable

selling things online is so annoying. for some reason people keep messaging me asking me what the least amount of money is that i'd accept. idk dude that's your job, you're meant to do an offer.

i was having fun trying to transliterate my name in chinese with a friend and there was a lot of "i should avoid the character for death right" and "no that one used for insects. that one is for frogs" sorta felt like dodging the 7 deathly plagues of egypt writing my name

listening to a lawyer discuss a defamation lawsuit they're handling and it's really funny to hear talk of the defendant spreading "false facts" about their clients philosphers across the world in shambles at discovering the existence of facts that aren't true

"i'm definitely going to connect with you on linkedin to keep up with all your cool ventures" "and i am going to the brown's website to order a delicious burger so that captain marvelous can wear it" "goodnight!"
