i make art, mostly with computers. currently working on an open world RPG with roguelike roots and an experimental bent. cat mom. she / her or they / them.
to be clear, because i think collectively reinforcing reality is important, there is a social engineering project here. it's project 2025. they want to artificially enforce inequality and exaggerated gender norms.
The Heritage Foundation asserts that women never needed sports in the first place. To prove that Title IX has become a tool of “feminist social engineering.” To demonstrate that women don’t need sports and that “clubs, intramurals, and exercise classes” is enough. open.substack.com/pub/jesspipe...
"incursion" has me thinking about the typical health system in roguelikes- passively healing as time progresses. both "incursion" and "the ground gives way" are examples of an alternate system where you have a discrete rest action you perform which is mechanically more a demarcation between days.
i decided to "play beast of reincarnation"! so far it's interesting. the beginning is rough, so rough! don't judge it. but once you get a few hours in it for some reason increases in quality dramatically. it feels like production woes or corporate whiplash on top of a very sincere passion project.
someone should make a game which is just the corrupting forces from all other sci fi worlds and nothing else. just the blight, the corruption, the shadow, the contamination, etc. wall to wall. maybe a couple characters if you're lucky.
linux update: with the new computer, i switched my dual boot setup and i seem to be having better compatibility. windows is messing with the other drives less. bulk storage is ext4, and windows doesn't touch it. windows is in a min size NTFS partition (which is >100 GB, not the ~50 GB ms says).
my "this is a weird outlier" bells are going off for beast of reincarnation. i would love to hear folks' thoughts around three things: (1) how it relates to the obvious influences (2) narrative / world integrity (3) foliage (+ whatever else you find relevant)
for some reason, after years of trying, "incursion: halls of the goblin king" just works with no setup on my new computer. here is the first of many threads on this fascinatingly unique and detail oriented game.
this is a cave pelican! it's hostile, and it's currently hiding. i feel better about my odds here, let's fight it.
oh my gosh i've tried to get Incursion to work for years and on a whim i downloaded it today and it... just ran? i am overjoyed to announce that today's roguelike is Incursion: Halls of the Goblin King!
pov your friend mei the goblin got to sleep in her box on the bed and is very happy about it.
Oh look, the GFM is almost at its final goal of $25K with just $448 remaining to hit the goal. gofund.me/d120eaa3c

hey all. lots happened in the last week. after a chaotic couple years i finally gotta find a new place to live, hopefully before the end of august. have leads but wasn't at all financially ready - so i'm gonna be fundraising thru all means, including an 18 day itch bundle <3 itch.io/s/196822/eme...

it's interesting to think about how noncommercial and small scale games do and don't actually achieve a punk ethos. punk music had forms to draw from which predated the commercial, and it reclaimed some things (eg electric guitars) which were v. much in the commercial mainstream.

these are my plans for doing reverse lookup for NPCs which are in transit (eg /not/ at any of the locations in their schedule).
i can use the new function to fetch NPCs for a given town, nomadic group, etc....
after this i want to finish the sculpture garden i'm making. and then after that, i am going back to the RPG (the game itself, not a prototype).
i love procedural generation. i'm taking the existing structures in this NPC prototype and writing some test functionality to expose data better and make testing quicker and lighter on its feet. above: the new text mode world map render. below: a function which finds all the habitations.
sometimes i'm actually feeling bad and sometimes i just need some good music.
this morning i'm playing the angband variant 'frogcomposband'. i'm going to do a summoner, with an evil bias grey mage as the base.
i'm a firm believer that micro scale effects of materials being physical surfaces are one of the things which make game graphics so uncanny. some examples: fingers squish and roll when you hold things. moss is totally different at different angles. tree bark and rock have intense self shadowing.
how dare he gaslight all the people whose health is permanently affected, the people who have lost friends and family members, the health care workers who sacrificed to manage the pandemic despite obstructionism from tyrants like him. what a waste of sauerkraut.
I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
C64 #Delphian progress: I've created an interior image and I quite like it... so I hooked it into the game. Anyway, here's how the game looks at the moment.
i did actually change one thing today, which is that i added simple CA based generation to the bodies of water. but all the rest of this data was in there before, just not rendered spatially.
