This week finds Frank hitting the buffers over the loss of the magnificent Botanic Gardens Station. Repurposed in the late 1960s to house the Silver Slipper café, and Morton's plumber's shop on the ground floor, with Sgt. Pepper's nightclub in the roofspace.

Someday my plinth will come... With the refurbed statues beginning to return to the revamped George Square, here's Baron Carlo Marochetti's Queen Victoria statue in its original site, on the corner of Buchanan Street and St Vincent Place.

Just realised that, 12 years ago, when we last hosted the Games, my old Dundee downstairs neighbour, Gregor Philp, played the closing ceremony with Deacon Blue. Tonight, another old Dundee mate, Ged Grimes, ex-Danny Wilson, was bringing down the curtain with Simple Minds. Well played, Glasgow

Opened #OTD in 1879, Glasgow Central Station. Here's the city's commuter cathedral in 1932, as seen by artist Frederick Murgatroyd. The original sketch can now be seen in the station's subterranean museum, which you can visit as part of the station tour.
