Bumped into someone I taught in Year 9 through to her history A-level onto Durham. Now working in advertising. This happens more and more the longer you’re in teaching and is such a good advert for staying in schools. It’s so special.

In 2015, I decided to invest time in learning what the schools with the best exam outcomes do. It was probably the most important decision I made in my career. These schools have a lot more in common than they do differences & many of these things can be adopted straight away in any context.

We’ve achieved a lot this academic year so far but our biggest bets were on behaviour/ culture, attendance & reading. Thanks to Charlie & rest of the team our attendance YTD is 98.2% & I’m super proud of how confident, articulate & kind our children are. Then SO proud of @lilystaff.bsky.social’s…
So many excellent headlines from our academic data yesterday but still my favourite figure is our attendance YTD of 98.2%. Our children genuinely love school and we love teaching them. It’s such a happy place!
So loved hearing our team talk so passionately about the extraordinary academic progress of our children but also so determinedly about what must now happen yesterday. It’s been the greatest privilege of my career founding a school with this team, children and their families.
