Top Gear Rally 2 (N64) (1999) 1/3

The sequel, now developed by Saffire instead of Boss Game Studios, revamps the driving physics and introduces a robust damage system and over a dozen internal car parts you can change and tune, with a bunch of vehicles and four environments with somewhat randomized track layouts for potentially infinite fun.

Here's a red Sport Serro (based on the Seat Ibiza Kit Car), swerving along a dangerous cliffside road, avoiding a purple rally car and approaching an old mansion with a skybridge connecting to a tower as the road goes under it.

A gray car with some salmon pink streaks called a Midnight Motors, based on the Peugeot 306 Maxi, driving on a dirt road near a ruined temple, surrounded by a tropical jungle with many a palm tree while trying to overcome a blue Subaru Impreza and another white rally car in order to get to 1st place.

The red Seat Ibiza Kit Car rushing through a very wide street in a small Middle Eastern town as it chases a white car that's about to do a tight right turn up a hill.

A blue Mini Cooper with the Union Jack painted on top, driving through the least UK looking environment, a dusty desert road secured with a flimsy wooden fence with a bunch of shrubbery and cacti scattered about.

Crash Bash (PS1) (2000) 1/3

What if we ditched the tabletop map of Mario Party and just kept the mini-games? That's what Crash Bash strives to answer, putting the beloved Naughty Dog characters in a cosmic battle between the witch doctor spirit mask Aku Aku and his evil twin brother Uka Uka, enduring many mischievous mini-games, like this all-out free-for-all Crate Crush where Crash, Dingodile, Neo-Cortex and Rilla Roo run around a muddy square patch of land, surrounded by ferns and ancient stone temple ruins, throwing crates at each other.

In Polar Push, Coco Bandicoot, N. Brio, Dingodile and Koala Kong are riding little polar bear cubs on a very slidy, frozen platform as it tilts depending on the contestants' positions, with Coco cleverly just standing near the center, Dingodile and Koala Kong butting heads and N. Brio just resigning to his fate and slowly sliding off the platform into the freezing Antarctic waters.

Tank Wars puts the same players as before on a desert battleground, surrounded by sandbags arranged in a square area with some rectangular vens and metal buildings/plates creating a little Pac-Man like maze while everyone is driving little green baby tanks, trying to blow each other up.

In Crash Dash, the gang is riding disc-like hovercrafts with two big exhausts on the back, driving around a doughnut-shaped racetrack in the middle of a nasty sewer lake of green sludge while a big ole slime monster rises from the center, yelling, growling and cursing its existence, plotting to overthrow the capitalist world governments whose greedy actions led to this monstr- oh nevermind the mini-game is over.

Carnivores (PC) (1998) 1/4

Developed by Action Forms, the same team from Ukraine that brought you Chasm: The Rift, Carnivores puts you on the surface of planet FMM UV-32 that serendipitously has species that are eerily similar to dinosaurs, so naturally the megacorps of Earth decide to exploit this planet by turning it into a hunting ground.

You're one such rich git that wants to feel the thrill of hunting dinosaurs so you're dropped off by a dropship onto one of several islands with the dinosaur of your choice, a few gadgets and a shotgun, X-bow or sniper and off you go.

Here we have a muddy piece of land with some grassy patches, shrubs and tall, thin trees scattered here and there with a cute Parasaurolophus walking past near you on the right, its duck-billed face and little horn dongle on the back of its head made it look pretty tame, which it is, just a nice lil' plant eater doing its thing.

A similar area with a few more trees under the cloudy skies, your X-shaped crossbox ready and aiming at an Allosaurus walking past very close by, a slender and meaner looking dino with sharp teeth.

Beautiful cloudy skies swirl and blow over a giant pyramid in the desert, with a little harmless Gallimimus runs about near a lone shrub, probably looking to munch on it.

The mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex, raising his big dumb head as if its sniffing something in the air while its little hands dangle just below it, showing off its belly and possibly asking for rubs and scritches.

Road Rash 64 (N64) (1999) 1/3

The rash is back, now in full 3D as you drive through tracks segmented from a sort of large open world map (that the game actively doesn't want you to explore), riding bikes and waving chains, nightsticks, baseball bats and such at your opponents, even giving you the option to steal a weapon from a rider if you ain't got any.

Here we have your rider on a red bike, wearing a checkered purple and yellow body suit, bein surrounded by three other bikers as you speed on through the open road while a hauler truck passes you by on the opposite lane.

Riding a green bike while wearing similarly greenish blue and red suit and helmet, you drive through a wide city road with lots of apartment buildings on the right side while a cop car that's slightly too large just zooms past, mowing down like four bikers on its path, sending them flying in all directions coz' justice doesn't wait.

Riding a cruiser type of bike as a denim wearing, black vest with skull art on the back kinda biker, doing a wheelie while riding near a red convertible as you're trying to impress them, zipping past a Big Taco fast food joint.

Driving past Chinatown on a very wide road with some restaurants and billboards on the left while an asshole called Teddy is waving his tire iron at you. How do I know his name is Teddy? Well, the game lists messages on the left side of the screen at all times about what's happening and who's doing what so it currently says "Bonked by Teddy".

Bugs Bunny & Taz: Time Busters (PS1) (2000) 1/5

I didn't realize this game is kind of a sequel to Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time but it's kind of fitting that the second game in the series is presented first due to the timey wimey shenanigans, or so I tell myself.

Taz the Tasmanian Devil is standing in front of a giant Aztec statue of a lizard or a dragon carved into a purplish-green mountain with a stone wall built as an entrance to the gaze of the giant scaly critter, while an little Aztec warrior with a green tunic and traditional feathery headwear is jumping with his spear in hand, ready to pounce on Taz.

Taz with his back turned, looking at a big salmon colored baby elephant with a golden viking helmet, sitting on someone in a blue robe, crushing the poor sod while resident stinker Bugs Bunny turns to the camera with a big smile and a shrug.

Bugsy boy visiting the Transylvanian Era, entering the grounds of a dark purple medieval castle with a big, burly, shirtless blue guy with a small patch of blonde hair, brown shorts and Vans sneakers, standing there, looking angry as Bugs jumps back from how startled and scared he is.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (N64) (2000) 1/4

Hera poisons Zeus, making him ill and opening the leadership spot for Ares who swoops in and causes havok and misfortune to the living world, so Hercules swoops in to save the day with his long-ish brown hair, yellow vest and brown pants, running around the muddy, rocky wilderness and visiting an enemy camp filled with some shanty barrels and a brown tent, punching soldiers in blue armor in the face.

A first person view overlooking an ancient Greek city with all the high stone walls, pillars and temples you'd ever want. A very chunky centaur archer, looking like a member of a nu metal band stands nearby on the left, reaching back to pull out an arrow for his bow.

A huge cyclops fella, wearing a red shirt, black unbuttoned vest and black pants, with a big wooden club and a very 90s goatee, towers above the fallen Hercules as he's getting ready to do some more clobberin'.

The story also puts you in control of other characters, like Iolaus of Thebes, Hercules' best friend, a shorter blonde man just wearing a vest and black pants, showing off his muscles and wielding a simple fighting stick that he uses to great effect.

360: Three Sixty (PS1) (1999) 1/2

In one of the rare instances of the name of the game being the same phrase twice, Three Sixty colon Three Sixty is set in a flooded post-apocalyptic world where people don't have much else to do but race and fight while piloting highly advanced futuristic hovercraft, often through really lovely looking environments like this wide river surrounded by trees as the hoverbiker goes under a ridge with a waterfall flowing over his head.

A frozen lake under a beautiful sunset sky, looking almost alien with the different strokes of blue, cyan, orange and yellow with pink clouds scattered about. A beautiful stone statue of an angelic figure rises from the frozen lake as well as a red wall with a big building behind it, evoking some classic Soviet architecture.

A distinctly NOT flooded desert, although you could argue that this is a sea of sand so I guess I'll allow it, showing a cool red hovercraft with two side boosters on the front, rushing over the scorching desert and under a gigantic ribcage of a mysterious dead creature.

Another river bank with some dark rocky shores as a green hovercraft struggles to stay on the water, approaching the starting position marked by two red flares burning on each side and a giant fallen head of the Statue of Liberty in glorious, untextured, vertex shaded low-poly.

PlayStation Developer's Demo Disc (PS1) (1995) 1/3

A teal background covered in many, many colorful balls bouncing around, or rather shaded circles, showing off the 2D capabilities of the fresh new game console called the Sony PlayStation.

North American players could get the Developer's Demo Disc when pre-ordering the console, with the slogan written on the cover saying "Hear It Now! Play It Later!" meaning that you could put the CD in your player and listen to fresh new tracks by Sony licensed bands such as The The, Dag, Korn, Mother May I and Dandelion, while waiting for the PlayStation to come to your doorstep.

The second demo called Diffusion shows layers of smaller, rainbow colored cubes exploding into a grid, expanding and showing off the transparency effects of display many polygons behind one another.

Rcube shows off an array of colorful, flat shaded cubes, arranged in a 3D diamond shape while rotating around their axes, letting you rotate the screen around, zoom in and out and some such.

The Mat demo shows a black background with a flat gray mat with metallic gray frogs with bright cyan eyes rotate and bounce around the mat, so you can increase their numbers and rotate the camera around, showing off the pre-rendered animated sprites bouncing around 3D space.

The Mummy (PS1) (2000) 1/4

The hottest and sweatiest adventure at the end of the millenium starring Brendan Fraser as tomb raider Rick O'Connell and Rachel Weisz as the aspiring Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan, searching for the Book of the Dead and trying to stop the risen mummy Imhotep.

Rick is a handsome brown haired man with a white shirt, beige pants with suspenders and a revolver harness on his chest, currently holding a torch and pushing it rather spitefully into the face of an undead skeleton man in ancient Egyptian blue garb who is holding a giant hammer, while his hammer-wielding buddy is getting ready to do a big swing with his heavy weapon.

A chase through some dark temple hallways with large neon green hieroglyphics, showing the action from a side view as Rick is running to the right, jumping over large stone cylinders rolling on the floor.

More jumping action from Rick, trying to get across from one small patch of rock to another and not get swallowed by the blood red river of bloody blood while also grabbing a few souvenirs like a golden statue and a bust of a pharaoh.

Rick explores a dark chamber made out of large stone slabs with some hieroglyphics painted in a lovely blue color and a giant skeleton holding a stone slab above its head as two boney ghosts approach the adventurer while he's trying to shoo them off with his extinguished torch.

Machine Hunter (PS1) (1997) 1/3

An alien invasion cleverly infects the Martian colonies with a virus that turns our robots into murderous machines, establishing overrunning Mars. As Earth fears they're next, they send out a special squad of Machine Hunters, dressed in cute pink overalls that enable them to fuse, mentally and physically into the machine they touch.

As your whole squad gets wiped out, you remain the sole survivor and the only hope to stop this alien threat and save as many human hostages as possible.

The game is shown from a top-down view, with your black haired, pink onesie wearing, dual-wielding hunter runs around all gangly around a brown, temple-like area while four aliens in brown outfits with really only their pale bald heads visible from up top rush in with their green laser fire.

The mines of Mars offer a green tinted industrial area with some lava flowing beneath the metal grating floor as you now pilot a four-legged spider-like robot with a spiky metal ball orbiting around you, leaving a trail of blood and dead alien bodies in green latex suits lying on the floor.

Apparently the somewhat terraformed Mars has swamps now, with large green leafed flowers with red bulbs spouting green poisonous goo at you as you're trying to traverse through the green sludge.

The interior of a cold blue asteroid filled with these giant green goblins with large flappy ears, looking like oversized gremlins, with electricity flowing through their hands and zapping your more humanoid white and pink robot as you shoot rockets out of your arms.

Bushido Blade 2 (PS1) (1998) 1/4

Bushido Blade is back, setting the stage of an ancient, 800 year long feud between two clans, waging a secret war of swords, polearms and a couple of firearms between samurai, ninjas and all sorts of unsavory characters.

Here we have Kannuki of the Narukagami clan, a spiky brown haired hero with a face cover/armor resembling a thin boxing face gear or the X-Men's Gambit's open face mask, wearing a blue outfit with neon blue rims, pushing his katana with one hand in a clash against an unnamed purple ninja as he's forcing him to kneel.

A rocky mountainside with some snow scattered on the grass as Red Shadow, the blonde Russian kunoichi wearing a red hairband and kunoichi dress with sporty red shorts, dual wielding a longsword in one hand and pointing a kodachi with her other hand at the fair, white haired man called Kaun, wearing a fully white ninja outfit without a mask, holding his katana forward.

Hongou of the Shainto clan, a black haired, shirtless man with long tattoos stretching the length of his arms, doing a far reaching squat thrust with his sword, stabbing a red ninja in the neck with a splash of yellow and orange particles gushing from his face, possibly popping a very nasty pimple.

Steel Reign (PS1) (1997) 1/3

An arcade tank shooter made by Chantemar Creations, their only game, but the studio apparently merged with Verant Interactive and worked on EverQuest.

A fairly standard shooter with a thin plot about driving prototype tanks to fil the world domination plans of one General Storm, choosing between three vehicles but unlocking up to twelve other tanks.

This here is the Sidewinder, a very wide and very squished gray-blue tank with the number 14 stamped on it a few times, driving through a desert read with some cacti and shrubs and a brown tank in the process of being exploded.

Another mission takes you to an urban area with lots of narrow streets and apartment buildings as you try to find a few key enemy HQ structures, tall gray buildings with red and white flags with some kind of crest in the middle, looking fairly totalitarian.

Driving the Venom, a black, high tech vehicle made out of many triangles and jaggy edges, looking like an F-117 stealth fighter in a tank form, shooting a wavy pink laser at a bunch of tanks, blowing them up, with one of the tank's turrets flying in the air in a very cartoony way.

The third tank on the left is just looking at you and if it had a pharynx, it would gulp in fear right now.

A beautiful dark orange sunset over a dimly lit highway with two futuristic towers with three antler-like antennae shooting bendy purple electric beams at your green tank.

Omega Assault (PS1) (2003) 1/2

The Italian NAPS Team, developers of Shadow Fighter for the Amiga and Gekido on the PS1 and GBA, got in a publishing deal with the now kinda infamous Dutch publisher Phoenix Games whose main operating concept was being the "super budget publisher" and made a dozen games for them over the course of the PS1 and PS2 systems, with one of them being Omega Assault.

This is an extremely barebones on rails shooter, set inside the cool cockpit of a mech full of displays, numbers, dials and buttons, looking at a small diorama of a city with a wide road with some taxis and vans just parked in place and an onslaught of very similar looking humanoid mechs painted in six different colors, each with their own attack pattern, with a blue and red mech floating over the road shown here, shooting green lasers at you.

Your arsenal consists of a quickly overheating laser, a fast shooting machinegun (both with infinite ammo) and a missile attack with three charges that just blows up everything on screen.

A night time scene that's almost exactly the same as the previous one, now showing a narrower street with taxis and a white van, surrounded on both sides by many apartment buildings, most of the windows lit up and the night street lights covering the city in a dark red glow while a red and a white mech buzz around, shooting seeking rockets and dodging explosions.

An army base with a couple of huge warehouses and a radio tower are being blown up by many, many orangey-purple-blue explosions, flooding the screen in a purple haze.

Another more industrial area on the outskirts with some warehouses under a gray cloudy sky with a closeup of one of the green mechs and a yellow mech slightly more far away on the right, exuding a thick cloud of black smoke as it's about to blow up with another short or two from your lasers.

Missile Command (PS1) (1999) 1/4

Aliens droppin' bombs on the Earth and it's the mission of Missile Command, or more precisely the pod pilots Firewall, Tactix and Case to defend Earth's cities by hovering their missile pods and shoot down the slowly descending missiles.

This time the defenders are hovering over the green hills of Eastern Australia with its cookie cutter cities made out of a few fancy Beyond 2000 skyscrapers (that was the name of a fantastic Australian documentary series about scientific breakthroughs and the technology of the future that nobody will remember), kinda looking like what a 3D neighborhood or a building in SimCity would look like.

A couple of gray missiles are descending from the skies with a straight blue streak and a few explosions pop in here and there.

The missions takes you to Antarctica, at a research base with a domed building and some crates, igloos and a radio tower sticking out of the cold, frozen landscape as the alien missiles descend on the base while your pods shoot out kinda like white photon torpedoes with long swirly trails.

The Commanders' next defense mission is Egypt, overlooking a few smaller cities with a giant pyramid rising into the pink dusk sky. An alien drone with a big gun is swooshing around and shooting at everything while more and more missiles descend upon the cities of Earth.

Each area takes you up into high orbit above Earth with the Sun glowing in the distance as a massive disc-like flying saucer hovers in your vicinity, made out of gray metal and spikes, some orange and black circuitry and tubes and lots of green neon lights and glass orbs to shoot at, making it a fun little romp of destroying layers of the mothership, revealing the more vulnerable innards until the entire thing blows up to smithereens.

Jumping Flash! 2 (PS1) (1996) 1/4

The villainous Baron Aloha flees to his home planet, Little Muu, after the events of the first game but is now invaded by the giant alien entity called Captain Kabuki that suspiciously looks like the King of All Cosmos from Katamari Damacy but with a white cone head, taking apart Little Muu and putting the pieces of land in giant glass bottles.

Baron Aloha swallows his pride and call for help from his adversary, so Robbit the robot rabbit is once more on the case.

The case being just lounging on this beautiful beach resort with palm trees, sunshades, lots of hotels, a floating island and a little green round kiwi bird with stick legs, two little dots for eyes and a long yellow triangle for a beak. He's mostly famous on the internet for being seen with a paraglider but is also instantly recognizable and smoochable as is.

This time around, Robbit's mission is to also rescue the native species of the planet, called MuuMuus, white squidly guys with five tentacles and a little palm tree on their head, kinda like the Piantas from Mario Sunshine.

This MuuMuu is protesting, holding a green traffic sign with the letter T, being all jolly with ^^ eyes as it stands on a flying whale, cruising through the air above a lovely seaside city.

Two adorable, googly eyed penguins, one with a green bowtie and the other, closer to the camera wearing a red bowtie, their eyes looking right through you as if their little triangular beaks are asking "hey man, you got some of that good stuff?"

A boss fight set in a dark void with the floor being made of a white surface filled with a pattern of all the symbols of a regular card deck, with two clowns with round heads and equally round bodies run atop beach balls, their eyes filled with malicious intent, their top hats immaculate, they reach with their hands forward, summoning a portal that shoots out a giant rocket at you.

N2O: Nitrous Oxide (PS1) (1998) 1/3

Aliens on the planet Neptune have built "The Torus", a tubular circuit that is made to create giant insects, built to invade Earth. Nitrous Oxide is a byproduct of the insect-creating process that also serves as the fuel for your Tunnel Runner ship on its mission to wipe out the insect menace.

Although none of this really matters because N2O is a hectic and smooth Tempest-like where you actually fly through the tunnel instead of just staying on the edge of it, shooting the swarm of various insects like these yellow beetle-like crawlies while rotating along the grassy ceiling that follows a yellow (well, really brown) brick road, picking up mushrooms and E coins.

All of this is augmented by a full soundtrack by The Crystal Method which elevates the simple arcade game into a techno music video as you bop your head to the heavy beats.

What looks like the interior of a fiber optic cable with two red tubes on each side, twisting and turning into the void as a big black spider with red legs crawls around and bites your colorful ship's ass.

This must be what it's like inside one of them big undersea fiber-optic cables that brings the internets to everyone.

A Giger-esque tunnel that's spiraling to the downwards-left corner, full of dark bio-circuitry and rubber tubing, accompanied by a giant cyber-firefly with a neon green butt light, illuminating the dark tunnel.

An ancient enclosed brick-layered waterway or an old Roman sewer, who could say, full of cute giant ladybugs with chompy mandibles and a green caterpillar with big red eyes.

Time Crisis (PS1) (1997) 1/5

After the daughter of the president of a small country is kidnapped by the remnants of the previous totalitarian regime, he calls in Richard Miller, the one man army to rescue her and stop this nefarious plot.

Richard promptly swings in on a construction hook and into a hangar full of weapons and blows up a submarine, sending the terrorist thugs flying as he floods the room with the red glow of the blasts as well as the blood of his enemies.

Rich cowers behind some displays of very expensive silverware and golden crowns inside a small private museum, with paintings of queens and lords on the walls, now filled with armed soldiers in blue uniforms and silver riot shields, but they don't know they're stuck here with you yadda yadda yadda.

A factory zone with some computer panels, crates and a big yellow robotic hand rotating around as the enemy soldiers in blue and brown uniforms flood the room, wearing corresponding blue and red berets, all with cool shades, possibly implying that the economy of this small country solely relies on the production and selling said cool shades.

The supposed leader and main villain, one Sherudo Garo, wearing a suave white suit and red hair with an unfortunate style that looks like he has a mop on his head, hiding behind some fern inside a circular white marble room, occasionally poking out to throw deadly daggers at you.

Jupiter Strike (PS1) (1995) 1/4

A very minimalist and sometimes rather dull rail shooter if it weren't for the fact that it has some really nice blocky, low-poly ship designs and environments, here having the player's ship seen from the back, its larger wings angled downwards at a 45 degree angle while the smaller tail fins go upwards at the same angle with a hexagonal engine exhaust split on the middle and glowing white from the blasting power of whatever atomic energy they have contained in that small ship.

I got sidetracked by the ship's angular cakes, I was gonna say that it's flying currently over a rocky asteroid area with flat plateaus as big purple space ships fly over and try to shoot you with rockets.

Approaching a blue planet while a fleet of three mid-sized gray ships block your way as you try to maneuver over them from the upper left side. Not that there's like literally everywhere else the ship can go so blocking a path doesn't mean squat in the vastness of space, but for the sake of the game I'll allow it.

As you approach the blue planet, now in low orbit, a barrage of giant, long torpedoes start flying towards you, very slowly so there's like no real danger because your ship is definitely small enough to dodge them easily. Maybe the gunner on whatever enemy ship was shooting those torpedoes mistook an enlarged view of your craft as "big" instead of "zoomed in".

Now entering the planet's atmosphere through a thick layer of white, puffy clouds as a couple of mid-sized crab-claw shaped gray ships float around and shoot homing missiles at you.

Hard Boiled (PS1) (1997) 1/2

In a bizarre twist that only the French are capable of, Cryo Interactive somehow managed to make a game based on the comic book Hard Boiled, created by Frank Miller and Geof Darrow about an insurance investigator that finds out he's a tax collector robot called Nixon, and turn it into an on-rails hovercraft shooter, driving Nixon's brown old timer looking flying car through drab and dull environments like this factory complex full of shipping containers, gray buildings, cranes and a big, wide helicopter vehicle floating in his way.

Another beautiful vista with an intensely red and yellow sky that someone pumped the contrast values on with a big cruiser ship on the right and some cylindrical structures on the left and, you guessed it, more helicopter enemies shooting rockets at ya.

Nixon enters some futuristic purple and green tunnel or some such, full of floating capsule bombs and a big red robo-spider chasing after you.

The overburned red skies of the docks end with a helicopter to end all helicopters, almost thrice as wide as your hovercar, armed with missile launchers and lasers and armored up, making it very slow and easy to circle around.

Colony Wars: Vengeance (PS1) (1998) 1/3

$A century after the events of the first game, the Earth Empire's Colonial Navy has been defeated by the League of Free Worlds and stranded in the Sol system, fracturing into groups and tribes warring with each other, until united by Kron with his anti-League propaganda. You play as Mertens, enlisting in the Navy in Sol and going through the ranks, fighting the tribes, League and even an alien threat. Here we a third person view of your fighter ship, flying towards a large Navy frigate, a light blue ship shaped like a mace with a binoculars-looking middle section that rotates, possibly for artificial gravity purposes. Speaking of gravity, the Frigate floats dangerously near a giant swirling wormhole, covering most of the screen in its majestic glory.$ Your mission, as it were, was to defend a Navy starport from an incoming wave of asteroids, which you failed to do, causing the station to blow up in large separated chunks with massive explosions. Whoops!
