Freedom was hard-fought, and its promise must never be taken for granted. On November 1, 1864, Maryland abolished slavery. Today, we honor those who fought for freedom and recommit ourselves to building a Maryland where justice, dignity, and opportunity are a reality for all.

What unites us will always be greater than what divides us. I joined the Islamic Society of Frederick for Friday prayers and a conversation about standing against hate. This community has spent decades lifting up its neighbors. Maryland is stronger because of it.

Sometimes it takes a parking garage to get people out of their cars! Today, we broke ground at Odenton MARC Station, making way for new homes, shops, and walkable public spaces. We're building communities around people, not just cars, and bringing opportunity closer to home.

When Marylanders call for help, our first responders answer with courage and compassion. Today, we honor the lives they save and the communities they serve. We owe them more than gratitude. We owe them the support and resources to do their jobs safely and return home to their families.

Dolores Huerta dedicated her life to fighting for dignity, equality, and justice. Her rallying cry, “Sí, se puede,” inspired generations to believe in the power of collective action. My heart is with her loved ones. May we honor her legacy by continuing the fight for a better world.

First impressions matter! Today, we opened the new Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Welcome Center, connecting 27 million travelers a year with Maryland's local businesses, attractions, and hidden gems. From the moment you land, we want you to know: You're Welcome! ✈️ 🦀 ⛵

From families gathering to pray in their homes to breaking ground on a new mosque! Congratulations to the Urbana Muslim Association on this exciting milestone. This new center will be a place for faith, service, and community for generations to come.

Prevention is a shared responsibility. This Red Ribbon Week, I encourage Marylanders to talk with young people in their lives about the risks of drug use and remind them that support is always here. By listening and building trust, we can help youth make informed choices and pursue their dreams.

Maryland’s schools give us so much to be proud of. Congratulations to our 23 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools for 2026–2027 and to the students, educators, staff, and families behind this achievement. These school communities show what dedication to student success can accomplish.

Government cannot design the workforce of the future sitting in a room by itself. Today, we heard from cyber and technology leaders about changing work, talent barriers, and how Maryland can help. Working with industry helps guide workforce investments and prepare Marylanders for evolving careers.

Cricket is coming to Frederick! 🏏 Excited to break ground on the future home of the Washington Freedom! This new venue will bring fans together, boost our local economy, and make Maryland a destination for one of the world's most beloved sports.

Every one of us has a story. And somewhere in that story is a teacher. Public school teachers helped write my American story. Today, Maryland’s educators are helping write countless more. Thank you for the futures you make possible. 🍎🎓✏️

Happy birthday to the United States Navy! I am grateful to the sailors serving worldwide, our veterans who served before them, and the families supporting every deployment and homecoming. To Maryland’s Navy community, thank you for your service and sacrifice. We’re proud to call you our neighbors.

On Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the rich history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across the nation. Today, we celebrate Indigenous voices, reflect on past injustices, and recommit to building a future where every community is seen, heard, and respected.

Congratulations to Michael James of Harford County, Maryland’s Teacher of the Year! As a child learning English, I experienced firsthand the difference great teachers make. Tonight, we celebrated 24 incredible educators who make that difference for Maryland students every day.

Nurses are the heartbeat of Maryland's healthcare system. It was an honor to join the Maryland Nurses Association's 123rd Annual Convention to celebrate their service and leadership. We'll keep investing in the people who take care of us.

“We’ll continue to push to make sure that we put money into mental health services.” Mental health care should never be out of reach for anyone who needs it. Investing in mental health means investing in healthier families, stronger communities, and a better future for Maryland.

Behind every breast cancer diagnosis is a person whose life and future matter. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I honor those navigating treatment, celebrate survivors, remember loved ones lost, and thank care teams. Everyone deserves screening, care, and support at every step.

A symbol fosters understanding, but patience and respect are vital. On Eric's ID Law's one-year anniversary, I honored the advocates behind this Maryland change. The butterfly on IDs signals hidden disabilities and enables safer, clearer, more dignified interactions.

Everyone deserves a home that is safe, respectful, and supportive. Maryland proclaims October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month to stand with survivors, recognize advocates, remove barriers, hold abusers accountable, and create a Maryland where survivors are truly heard and never alone.

Innovation starts with people coming together. I toured Rocket Lab in Middle River and talked with the Maryland Aerospace and Technology Commission about growing our aerospace industry. These partnerships help turn Maryland’s aerospace strengths into good jobs and opportunities statewide.
