Here we are on our way to Marion Kentucky. Not too bad. We had a nice day. We saved a few miles by avoiding the ferry & taking a fishing scowl from Golconda Illinois across the Ohio to Kentucky.

We awoke with the sun and started on our way to Illinois. We made pretty good time except for a little accident I had. Nothing serious. We got to St. Genevieve, a nice historical little town. We then took the ferry across the Mississippi. Fun but hot.

We stopped at a little town, “Moduc.” Had a drink & then went on to camp at Ft. Kaskaskia State Park. Really beautiful. It overlooked the Mississippi River & so quiet & green.

We awoke real early. This had to be our 100 mile day. The morning was a little tuff. We stopped for lunch at a little store. The lady had ice for everyone. It was such a luxury. It is so hot you sweat so much you need the liquid.

...started to Eminence. We hit a little town about 20 miles from Eminence & had the best dinner. Roast beef & Veg, fresh blackberries & ice cream, $4.50 or something. We went on to Eminence and camped in a big tent with another biker. It was the Bike Inn, no one was there. We were tired but not too bad of a day.

Awoke in Eureka & left about 8:00.
We once again left the route & continued on our way out of Kansas.
We had a pleasant ride. It was cloudy.
We stopped in Fredonia for lunch. We tried to call Cindy & Fred to meet us. We are off the trail again. We decided to go on to Girard...

...which is about 100 mile day. We got there about 8:30 & these people asked us to come and stay with them for the night. What a treat. We Showered & cleaned up. Slept in a bed & they wanted to take us to the state line the next day. This trip is full of surprises.

Awoke late again. Garry went to the Bike Inn & picked up camping list. He brought breakfast to the park & I dried everything in the sun while he was gone.

We started out for “Eureka.” We went off the route so it would be easier and saved us 10 miles & a gravel rd.
We made it to...

Eureka about 7:00. Not bad considering we left Newton about 11:00. We just made it to the park to shower, cold but nice.
We then went to eat & do our wash.
Who knows where we will end up tomorrow.
So many oil wells in Kansas, what a surprise.

Started out too late. 8:30 but had a good rest. Started on our way to Newton. 104 Miles. We did fine until a rain storm got us in the afternoon.
In the morning about 1100 we hit a cafe in the middle of nowhere. They had homemade pie, 40 cents a slice. We had cheeseburgers…

…& cherry pie, had ice cream, beer, Coke, Dr. Pepper & a slice of pie every kind – custard, cherry & peach. Unbelievable. $3.75 for the works.
In the afternoon we got stormed on and had to wait under a bridge.
We didn’t get to Newton until 9:00. What a drag. We missed the showers & everything. So exhausted we passed out.

Awoke before they sun shined its face. We went on to Ness city & then on to Larned. We had not too bad of wind until we had to go south.
We did stop & have a good breakfast.
We had 20 miles of strong head wind & we thought we would never get to Larned Kansas.

We did make it by 8:00 & we just made it to the shower in city park. This town was very impressive. A nice park & pool! A nice clean town. Population 5000.
We went out for a while, played the pinball machine. Settled down to a nice rest after a 97 mile day.

We awoke early in the park, packed up and got ready to go. A real drag. The wind was fine in the morning but picked up by afternoon. I could hardly believe it.
Went off the trail to save 20 miles in boring Kansas & we stopped at...

Garry took some pictures of “Amy” Kansas. Garry went to town & brought back hamburgers & milkshakes. That helped to boost our spirits. Kids were around all night, hardly any rest.

After that we rode to Tribune. We camped in the city park & showered at the pool. We did some laundry & went to bed very early. So tired from fighting the wind, no scenery either.

We awoke bright & early to start our way to Kansas. We started early to beat the heat. Our goal was Eads CO but we didn’t quite make it. We did go 90 instead of 110 & we made it to Haswell.
We were so exhausted from the heat & the wind. The wind was the worst.

...was nothing opened + we were so thirsty I went and asked a lady for ice. She gave us a big pitcher of ice tea. What a godsend.
We cleaned up a little & we slept on the picnic table hoping the wind would die in the morning so we could go on.

We packed up and started on our way. We made it to Rawlins about 1:30 – we saw a lot of antelope along the way. We decided to go on to to Saratoga for the fourth of July.

...we arrived in Saratoga it was a dust bowl. All the motels were full. So we had to stay in an old land mark hotel & bath upstairs, it was kind of fun.
We thought maybe Buffalo Bill had bathed there. What a riot.
We ate at a buffet & decided to leave the next day. The room was too much money.
