Round N-X of water management improvements to my 74 year old, heavily modified YEG house. I have a sunken courtyard between house and attached garage (attached original garage via on-slab extension). In the recent storms the extension room flooded for the first time. I dug in a new sump at low spot.
@edmontonanne.bsky.social I see that save our street parking signs are popping up in Wihkwentowin on 121 st now. #yegcc just opened a BIG can of worms with the 50 st decision. Now every YEG community is going to think they deserve $80k personal parking spots on public land. Gonna be hard to say no!

That's why we aren't making progress on our problems. If we ignore them, or keep making the same decisions that go us to those problems, things continue to decline.
Yegbike They have just re-paved 121 st from 105 to 106 Ave but not yet repainted. What are the odds we can get the SB bike lane next to the curb on the W with the white hemi-cylinders and flex posts like 114 Ave to delineate a parking lane next to that? Really reduce the potential for dooring.
So I found one YEG alley drain today about 10” under water. Not blocked at surface, so likely lots of debris from the adjacent construction lot. 311 to let Epcor handle that one!
Well, my new outdoor sump dealt with that little YEG dump fine, not like the last one! But enough already - I have a lot of paving stones to lift, re-slope, and relay already to get the pooling away from the house. Could we have a bit of time to get that done, please?
I gotta presume 90% of YEG houses will be reporting water issues on real estate sales in the next year. If they aren’t, somebody should be asking hard questions. We were lied to about our house 25 years ago.
Street flooding in your neighbourhood YEG? Do a civic service and take a rake on a walk or cycle around your 'hood. Epcor can't do it all and it will probably cost us all $500 gor every drain they clean. Vehicle stalled in a puddle* on 119 st last night. 3 near drains, all full of crap**.
Very glad to have a roof over my head, even though I was just pulling water out of a level entry way since the water outside was higher than the doorway. Be thankful for small mercies YEG!

Weird thing today. Driving home on Hwy 37 west of YEG and my passenger front window exploded. Farm country so I can’t rule out a kid with a pellet gun shooting at cans but thinking it was sun on the window with AC on inside?? At least I don’t drive everyday but loud trip home!

I am very willing to stand in line - but ordered my mail-in ballot because I want to shorten the line for others. Just like why my cycling REDUCES traffic congestion for others, my mail-in ballot reduces voting congestion for others. It's a good choice.

I've sent my letter, with discussion of why I bike, the benefits I see it has for city and province (traffic, personal health, societal health, etc). Also discussion of the need to have the public pay for storage of private property - maybe it is time to put (wheeled) garden boxes at my house?

This is why I won’t ride in the death zones they have for painted bike gutters in some parts of YEG, like 121 st and parts of 106 st. Take the lane instead of the death zones. YEGBIKE

Earlier this year there were discussions about what to do about historically low water levels on Lac Ste Anne. This climb of more than 1 metre in one of our bigger lakes is … significant? And the rain there is only 200-250 mm last 30d compared to >300 mm in YEG.
So great to be able to just hop on a bike with a novice rider, buzz downtown on mostly protected mobility routes, hit Taste of Edmonton and the Museum, and come back home with much less worry about inattentive drivers, potholes, and parking. Shoutout to ToE for secure bike parking. YEG yegbike
You REALLY don’t want each of us choosing our own ways to cycle in traffic! Bike lanes help streamline overall traffic flow to make it safer for everyone. SUPs might improve driving but create MORE conflicts between different user types.
MacScot🇨🇦@mlm7.bsky.social · 3w agoI have been driving in downtown Edmonton my whole working life. Not once have I been in anyway delayed by a bike lane. They are well placed and provide a safe array of cycling routes. In truth they keep cycles out of rush hour.

Yegbike I rode south the length of 96 st on-street bike lane this afternoon. Nobody yelled at me for using the shared lane - since there wasn't a single motor vehicle the entire length. Congestion doesn't seem to be a problem!
Yeg yegbike One for Dreeshen. Y'know, I rode across the Yellowhead twice today and nobody was using it. I guess we don't need it, much less the billion dollar expansion.
