Employees are not allowed to say that genocide is taking place in Palestine, management is stopping seminars, and the autonomy of institutional boards is being restricted. Researchers, rectors and employees at Lund University are now sounding the alarm that academic freedom is under attack.

The UPPSALA DECLARATION OF CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION now has 2,769 signatories. The EUROPEAN DECLARATION OF CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION has 4,699. The VERWEIGERUNG AUS GEWISSENSGRÜNDEN only has 434, but they take the largest personal risks. /2
We all want to move on with our lives, yet the violence continues. The killing continues. The occupation continues. The colonisation continues. More than 9,000 Palestinian hostages are still in Israeli detention. /1

This is important and significant but Uppsala University, and all higher education institutions in Sweden, should also cut ties to Israeli institutions. Israeli academia is embedded and complicit in apartheid and genocide.
