Storm brewing. I’m 5+ miles inland from the Liverpool waterfront, but I have more seagulls wheeling above my house than Blackpool Prom.
It’s not making major headlines but CAF bank, relied upon by a LOT of charities & CICs has been off line since 24th July. 14,000 bank accounts unable to make payroll, pay bills etc. Not the first time this has happened either. A bank making £14.7M pre tax profit could perhaps afford a better system?

August. A birthday month for me & many friends & relatives (14 at last count). Stone fruit is ripening, my greengages are almost ready. August always makes me think of sunflowers & paprika harvests, trips across the Hungarian plains to the Balaton, spotting storks nests, eating lángos & fagylalt.
Oak casualty of the drought. Good job no- one near. It’s 12 foot long & thicker than my thighs. Would have hurt!
Too many bananas. I don’t actually like them much. And I cannot make TW banana bread again. I also cannot bear to waste them.
One of the more horrid trends in funding applications is the inclusion of lived experience. Which in itself is to be encouraged, BUT then asking for details of that lived experience trauma seems prurient & unnecessary.

My piece for @yorkshirebylines.co.uk is still available. The real problem was abandonment. When the pits closed and the mills shut down, it wasn't just jobs that were lost they also lost their banks, their community centres, their local shops and their sense of pride.

I wouldn’t be here without the Refugee Convention. My dad was on a death list when he fled Hungary. Being welcomed to the UK & being able to continue his medical studies at Oxford’s Keble College, despite initially not speaking a word of English, led to him being a Liverpool GP for over 40 years.
Prepping for tomorrow’s volunteer lunch. Caramelised onion tart with green olives & thyme. Also on the menu are borlotti beans with sage & tomatoes, walnut parsley pesto pasta salad with peas, hummus & tortilla chips, rosemary focaccia & to finish a lime & coconut cake. All incidentally vegan.
Watching Casablanca (again) & marvelling that it was made in 1942, before any outcome was known.
