As a child, Emma found her grandmother in the woods, crying over something awful yet unseen. The memory has been lost for years but Emma’s return to her grandmother’s house brings the horror back, drawing her into a world of witchcraft and the occult. #scotwriterpitch2025

SPOOKY BITCH is a queer Magic Realism novel set in working-class Aberdeen about a girl who has wings and can see the dead, and how she avoids becoming her mother who has wings and can see the dead. Mega Mum issues, kissing girls in bars, and going to the Big Tesco vibes. #scotwriterpitch2025

So Weird Teenage girl. Tumblr. Bones. Confused mum. Scottish small town. Media frenzy. Police investigation. Grave robbing. And in the midst of chaos, a sad novel about grief and loneliness. #scotwriterpitch2025

SO WEIRD Hairdresser and single mum Mel Lamont’s attempts to understand her teenage daughter Lacey’s peculiar interests. Involving men wearing makeup on Kerrang! and referring to herself as the ‘literal embodiment’ of Mary - a local witch burnt at the stake centuries prior. #scotwriterpitch2025

Set in small Scottish town Greenock SO WEIRD is loosely inspired by ‘Boneghazi’ – a short-lived viral spectacle in 2015, consisting of a Witchblr (Tumblr witchcraft) user sharing and selling her collection of human bones fragments to other online witches. #scotwriterpitch2025

EQUINOX. A sparse poetic novella untangling themes of sibling loss and inter-generational trauma through seasonal shifts and excavations of deep time. A love letter to moss, myth, mother-daughter complexities and the power of place. Lucas Rijneveld meets Megan Hunter. #scotwriterpitch2025

SO WEIRD All teenage girls have phases, right? Although, they don’t all get arrested for trafficking human remains. Under investigation Lacey McDermott’s own Tumblr provides damning evidence against her. Her mother, Mel, cannot comprehend her teenage daughter or her blog. #scotwriterpitch2025

SO WEIRD Growing up in a small Scottish town is hard for any teenage girl. Lacey distracts herself from her fractured home life with Tumblr and a fascination for a local sixteenth century witch. Coping mechanisms that lead to a grave robbery and police investigation. #scotwriterpitch2025

Good luck to all writers pitching their work today in the Bluesky Writers’ Pitch 2025 - don’t forget to include the all important tag: #scotwriterpitch2025
