An important channel for macro uncertainty is the interplay of financial & labor markets. Uncertainty exerts downward pressure on asset values, discouraging vacancy posting and making it harder for workers to find jobs. Potentially inflationary.

Returned to my alma mater for the weekend. Little has changed since I started my graduate studies in 2016; it's still beautiful in the autumn, my favourite cafe is thriving, and social science students are debating "how the Democrats recover from this"

- Play SRF

💡steps toward bridging Keynesian & search perspectives in "A Theory of Non-Coasean Labor Markets" (Blanco, Drenik, Moser, Zaratigui), which can speak to inefficient job separations; those shape the impact of monetary shocks & can be identified using standard microdata. #EconSky 📉📈

Great quote by Koopmans on tractability traps in economics (or trampolines?) I wish I had remembered it earlier "Tools...may even come to dominate an entire period or school of thought. Our servants may thus become our guides, for better or for worse, depending on the accidents of the case"

#EconSky, what are your favourite examples of papers using micro-econometric methods to answer macro questions? (I would like to include more such papers as examples in the first-year econometrics course of our PhD sequence.)

Super interesting paper by M Morazzoni (UCL), using a rich combination of micro data and theory to demonstrate how student loans interact with entrepreneurial dynamics & exploring policy implications. #EconSky 📉📈 🔗https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yplMDXtuomk_OLTABXiUx1ex3sMIpJ7C/view
