Have fun and stay safe eclipse fans of Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park! Very heartened by people coming together to marvel at nature. Here’s some tips to protect your eyes if you haven’t managed to get your hands on a pair of those early-2000s 3D movie glasses: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Three ways to watch the solar eclipse safely without glasses

With some shops running out of stock, it may be too late to buy eclipse glasses - but you can still safely watch the spectacle using some household items.

Great to take part once again in the annual inspection of the Gibson Tomb earlier today at St Nicholas Churchyard right at the heart of Sutton. A pleasure too to meet the new Rector of St Nicholas, Reverend Allen Bower. Welcome to our community!

Don't get me wrong, I'd like the clicks, but I fear my point may be lost in translation with that headline! As I say in my column, it's deeply frustrating that (some) Burnham fans seem comfortable stereotyping London as a fortress of middle-class wealth. www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/2644968...

Luke Taylor MP challenges the middle-class idea of London

Labour's non-committal situationship with Europe is getting a bit tired. Not moving on the ridiculous red lines set down by Starmer is costing families and businesses. Stop flirting aimlessly and get on with Single Market talks. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This could have been much worse: whether or not sensitive info was breached, letting the CCP have any kind of backend into our security systems is a huge risk. That's why rewarding China with a superembassy is the last thing we should be doing. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

Royal Navy drone cameras linked to China raise security concerns

These are welcome steps, but they need to be married up with action on another huge source of financial difficulty: scammers. Too many vulnerable people are exposed to scams that bleed them dry - and we need concerted action to tackle the wannabe mobsters responsible. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Burnham brings forward ban on 'subscription traps' to ease cost of living

The prime minister is embarking on a UK tour with a series of announcements aimed at easing living costs.

Welcome, but the devil will be in the detail for this one. The incredibly vague commitment to 4 sites across South West London doesn't inspire confidence that this won't end up a postcode lottery. My Lib Dem colleagues and I will hold the Govt's feet to the fire. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This news will be deeply alarming to all Londoners. I am glad to hear that the victims have not sustained serious injuries. The Met would like to reassure the community that they currently believe this to be an isolated, mental-health related incident. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c0...

More fiscal devolution is a good thing in our painfully centralised country. But basing it solely on Mayors won’t just be unfair on areas without one - it also erodes the voice of local councils under one. London’s 32 boroughs must have a seat at the table on this. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Andy Burnham to give regional mayors share of income tax

The prime minister says the move will give power to "every postcode" but critics say the plans lack detail.

The roadworks on Central Road are beyond aggravating. I, alongside Worcester Park councillors and the Leader of Sutton Council, have written to the CEO of Thames Water demanding answers, and a way forward for them to start engaging properly with the people whose lives they disrupt.

It’s good to see UEFA responding to this with the seriousness it deserves. Infantino is the head of the rotten corpse that is FIFA, and the sooner he is removed and the organisation gutted of those who enabled him, the sooner world football can recover. Get him out, now.

The clock is already ticking, Andy. The way we vote is (like so much else in our system) a Victorian relic. Almost every other country in the world has ditched it. With fair votes, we can have fairer, clearer and better informed debates on the most important issues - and get better solutions too.
