I’m having the kids alone for three days and the eldest has just told the youngest that she should stop the “bullshit performative throat clearing” over breakfast. It’s gonna be a long weekend, folks.

If I hear one more “but Hitler was actually a socialist” from some American with historian credentials not extending past AP US History, I might actually clinically lose it.

Watching the news from Germany makes me want to cry. I don’t have any smart words, but of all the countries in the world, Germany should not be the one where fascists get almost 45% of votes in a state election

After almost two years and two moves, I have finally unpacked enough boxes, found enough space, and a real reason to set my plotting machine up again, which means inhabitants of this house should now prepare to find random cat stickers everywhere. I’m not sorry.

A small, stylised brown cat decal with a curled tail decorates the cream-painted wooden door of a dimly lit barn.

Update hot off the press: It’s been literal months without proper running water now. We set out last night, giddily getting ready to install a new pump so we could use the secret third well, only to find out the drill canal is blocked, presumably because someone dropped a pump in there.

Update hot off the press: a third well has hit the cottage. We may or may not have found a third, drilled well in the garden. Stay tuned to find out whether it is unusable for some godforsaken reason or whether the previous owners were simply complete muppets.

Week 2 with The Guests™: We’re not quite brave enough to play yet, but Daisy is making some valiant efforts! Dahlia is still much more skittish, but also very curious.

I’m officially the worst cat foster mum on the planet. They’ve slowly started coming out when nobody is around, so I wanted to go sit with them to get them used to human presence. When I grabbed a cushion from the couch, I pushed a black shirt aside. Spoiler: not a black shirt. A guest.

Daisy and Dahlia have arrived, and they’re very suspicious of us. Entirely fair, I too would be skeptical if a random lady dropped me off at a stranger’s house. They’ll be staying with us until they found their forever home!

A shy black-and-white cat peers out from an open pet carrier, its white paws tucked at the entrance beside a red, star-patterned cushion or blanket. A second empty carrier sits alongside it in the warmly lit wooden room.

We were gone for three days and the water in the well has not replenished enough to wash a load of laundry. I’m genuinely this close to a menty b at this point because I simply don’t know how I’m meant to navigate basic life tasks without water. Dishes and laundry are piling up.

We’re getting two foster cats tonight, because if you have a farm house and a bunch of social cats already, fostering sorta feels like a no-brainer. Very curious to see how our very social oranges will deal with two super skittish orca-kitties!

Two black-and-white cats walking toward the camera along a rough garden path. One has a white chest, paws, and muzzle and is slightly ahead; the other is mostly black with a small white chest patch. Bare shrubs line the right side, while a frosty lawn and autumn-coloured trees stretch into the background in soft morning light.

Living in the middle of nowhere is thrilling. This morning has begun with @bearlawyer.bsky.social and I attempting to coax a rogue Shetland pony foal back into his pasture, because the lil guy had figured out there was no current on the fence. He eventually chose to oblige. I love it here.

I’m still holed up with the old cat and the old woman, though @bearlawyer.bsky.social has joined by now. A visitor stopped by today, a friend of the family. He looked at Mia and asked if she was already grown-up or still a kitten. Sir, this cat isn’t just grown up, she’s ✨antique✨.

A small elderly tabby cat stands on a vintage red-and-gold striped sofa, looking toward the camera with her tiny pink tongue peeking out. Warm afternoon sunlight streams through lace curtains behind her, casting bright patches across the upholstery.

There’s something serene about spending your birthday in an old creaking farmhouse with an old cranky woman and an old cranky cat, and none of these entities knowing it’s my birthday. It’s liberating, in a way.

Changed rooms because the bed in the other room was terrible. This room has a single bed. I set up a whole cosy corner for Mia with a cardboard box step. In her wildest case of battered cat syndrome yet, Mia was so miserable she couldn’t sleep in bed with me that she curled up in the litterbox.

A small, cozy bedroom with floral wallpaper, a white metal bed, and rumpled pink-and-white striped bedding. A warm orange wall lamp glows above the headboard. Beside the bed is a wooden chair with a coral cushion, and a large red cardboard box sits on the wooden floor underneath it.

Old woman: “I’m unhappy that you’re not eating.” Old cat: is eating one of the pastries on the table. She was not authorised to do so. Old woman: “Look, even the cat is eating.” Old cat: smacks her lips. I force down a third of a pastry. Old woman: “SEE!! YOU WERE HUNGRY!” Old cat: squawks.

“Get me broccoli. Don’t buy the broccoli at ICA. I’m allergic against broccoli from ICA. You can buy it at Coop or Lidl, though.” WHAT DO YOU MEAN BRITTMARIE WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOURE ALLERGIC TO ICA BROCCOLI SPECIFICALLY IM LOSING MY MIND

Me: walks into the room Old cat: stares into corner Old woman: stares into same corner Me: stares into corner trying to figure out what they’re staring at Old woman: Magnus likes you. He thinks you’re good. Old cat: squawks softly Reader, Magnus has been dead for two years.

As we’re at @bearlawyer.bsky.social’s mum’s farm, the ancient cat and I are staying in his old room with a very tall box spring bed. I attempted to build the cat some makeshift stairs, but she’s resorted to just shoving her paw down my throat whenever she wants up, down, or love. CRIMINAL MUPPET.

Close-up of an elderly tabby cat curled up on a bright red blanket, staring at the camera with a stern, slightly unimpressed expression. Warm morning light streams through a curtained window behind her, with blue walls and a bookcase visible in the softly blurred room.

I cannot, look at the ancient cat and the ancient mother-in-law-ish watching TV together. 😭😭😭😭

A warmly lit, old-fashioned living room decorated in deep reds and browns, with patterned wallpaper, layered Persian-style rugs, leather armchairs, a wooden coffee table, bookcase and chandelier. My beloved @bearlawyer.bsky.social’s mother is not doing so hot, and as the beloved it working, I’m headed to the other side of the country to keep her company tomorrow. I love that woman, but she is the human equivalent of my grumpy, spicy, ancient cat, and she only speaks Swedish with me. 🥹🥹
