โI think youโre a swell guy for technically being an alien, you at least got a sense on how trading and currency work here!โ He rubbed his hands together before he dug into the steak, loving how it tastes. โTell me again, what exactly is this again? A beast you slain or something?โ
"Huh! Guess you must really like me~! Or at least my cookin'!" Link chuckled, giving Jay the last of the cooked portions. "That's all I got, for now. So, I better not see any of your posse look up at me, 'n act like I can feed 'em, too!"
โI got about an hour till they get here, so no sweat off my back truly. As far as seconds? I wonโt lie, Iโm not going to deny that tasty steak I just had. So if you donโt mind, please place another in my plate!โ The hybrid smirked towards the human.
Link was getting all the more suspicious about what exactly Jay meant, but kept an even face to not betray what he was thinking. "Again! Fair! Well, unless you're thinking about seconds, then I'll just get to cleaning up here, so you can run along to your meeting with your friends."
โWell now you know how I feel about how youโre describing the game you hunt! And itโs not necessarily an inside joke, just one that youโre not familiar with. And trust me, not something youโd likely wish tk know any time soon.โ He said with a smirk.
"If this is some 'inside joke' among folk from this region or whatever, then I guess you would have me at a loss. Can't know everything about a new 'ecosystem' in a few days!"
That got Jay to laugh, slapping his knee in response. โGrahaha! I needed that response from you. You were sounded way too confident for your own good, itโs pleasing to see you befuddled for once.โ He teased Link for now.
"Wait, what-?" Link had...questions. But apparently there wasn't time for Jay to answer them. He was beginning to question if he even WANTED to know what Jay meant.
โGood, just basically saving you the trouble. If my fellow mates see you in the cabin, they might mistake you for an escort.โ Coming to the realization that Link may not know what that is exactly. โDonโt worry about what that means, just stay on the camp site for the time being.โ
"Stay outta the way and outta sight. Got it." Link replied. For now, at least, "plausible deniabilty" was likely a good thing. Can't report to his bosses things he doesn't know about.
โI run into those people plenty of times, but now that you know a pinch of what I do, you might see a few of my fellow clan mates later on today. We have a small meeting in a matter that needs to be taken care of, but it shouldnโt be long.โ He expressed, mainly for Link to remain at camp.
"That's fine. Again, we both got some 'trade secrets' we ain't gotta tell all about right away. But I guess that's why I felt all along like I was in 'good company', so to speak. Different lines of work, yet, we already understand each other quite a bit."
"Ayo, it's the fall! I'm so pumped up for those pumpkin spice drinks and apple crisp desserts! Y'all like my flannel? You'll be seeing me wearing it this season, a lot!" ๐จ: Tacorat.com
Truthfully, Jay calling Link "kid" wasn't something he'd keep up with. Most of the time, it was natural for "Jericho" to say to those who didn't realized what kind of man he was whenever they thought patronizing was suitable. "More like my birth name given by my parents. Jay, as you know, was -
A moniker associated with your craft or renown? Or maybe just a cool nick like 'Barkeep' that just stuck after everyone started callin' ya that?"
While his personality changed, it seemed as though Link took the frivolous approach while analyzing the hybrid and his world; which in return, made Jay shake his head and chuckle deeply. โFirst of all, kid? You might get a โriseโ when it comes to slaying large beasts or whatever within your -
the closest to Jay's "true" nature. "Am I getting warmer, dear apex of your urban habitat...?"
"It's paramount that we do stay quiet..." With that last sentence, his entire demeanor changes in a flash. From a boisterous, amiable guy to a more grim, dour kind of being. "We're talking about a world within another world, a world that's been around nearly longer than what is known as common -
about keeping things quiet!" The Hunter chuckled. "...You and your mob outfit don't deal in 'unusual cargo' of any sort, though, right? During my first year on the job? I ended up taking a request line from another 'mafia' outfit. Nearly lost my Gog damned life near the end of it!"
โLike they havenโt already, Iโm not afraid of some damn suits.โ
"Then corpos will definitely try to capture you."
โHey, get that camera out my face. I am what I am, I do t have a single chrome on my body.โ
Roman put his camera right in jays face. "Kinda yea, but there's so many implants being made everyday so you could just have fluffy chrome."
The hybrid leaned down and got into the kidโs face with a slight glare of his eyes. โDo I look made up?โ
"But aren't dragons and lycans made up?"
He looked at him with a straight, warm smile, leaning back on his seat as he started to pick up a few signs. โIs that so? Certainly it has a lot to do with my personality, making me an interesting fellow to look at, eh?โ He chortled a bit, his own tail swayed behind him.
"Let's just say I'm more comfy with ya than I am with most-" Bowser leaned over the side of his chair, resting his head in the palm of his claw. He enjoyed Jericho's company as well, even if he wasn't ready to admit that just yet.
Itโs not often that Jay spoke to others so casually about his other life, normally itโs mandatory to keep quiet about it and fortunately for the hybrid? There was a bit of trust with Link. โIf I told ya, youโd probably have a new thing to worry about other than hunting yourโฆ Big Fauna or -
"What kinds of things are you and your group responsible for, hm? Gotta hunt something?"
Jay allows Link to blabber off for the time being, trying to figure out what the hybrid was. Suddenly, Link closely hits the nail on the head with the last suggestion. And while he could have shook his head, Jay allows Link to know heโs on the mark. โโฆ If you saw what I do and how itโs done? -
A smirk came to Link's face. "And there it is~! Had a feeling there was more to you! I'm more than a bit familiar with the 'salt-of-the-earth hayseed' types, myself!" Link leaned on one arm, still smiling at Jay. "So...lawman? Secret agent? Or...~!" He sniffed the air around Jay. "A gangster?"
โI guess you got a point there, makes it hard to believe, at the same time, I know a thing or two about not allowing the public to know what they donโt need to know.โ Admitting that heโs not just another participant on this planet and having a role where his profession is kept under wraps.
"Not my 'time'. More like 'dimension'. The fact that you've never seen anything from my home break out into your world means we're doing a good job in that area!" Also that maybe this world doesn't have as many natural resources that a monster might want. But Link's not complaining!
โNot quite, maybe a little. Being a mix of a mammal and a reptile has its perks.โ
"Oh... Yea I guess your sweating more than me right now with that fur..."
โBasically youโre saying society as we know it today wouldnโt be what it is without what you do in your time?โ This is all news to him, it goes beyond what he already knows considering he is apart of a clan that runs an underworld society underneath common society.
we all may share the same spaces, inevitably, conflict might arise. Guys and girls like me help keep things balanced!"
โYouโre complaining? Youโre not the one with the massive amount of fur on ya.โ
@lycandergbro.bsky.social "It's so hot today..."
// Iโm gonna say this in the most respectful way (considering Iโm part of the problem) Thereโs definitely a sense of disappointment when a few writers essentially horde/create so many different muses/accounts that the one you do like ends up either no longer being written when another muse is made.
"Good thing I'm not unwanted then!" Jericho finally finished his plate, leaning back as well while enjoying Bowser's company. "So, if you don't mind me asking, what makes me so... Worthy to be sitting next to ya and eating a good breakfast?"
"Nah, just the unwanted guests." Bowser chuckled and leaned back in his chair a bit. That was partly true...Jericho was just one of those lucky guys he tolerated in his castle not to toss into the dungeon.
