SW counties of England have the highest no. of confirmed #Lymedisease cases per population www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... If you live or go on holiday to the SW be aware! The ticks are a lot smaller than the BBC image suggests! @ukhsasouthwest.bsky.social

This is for syphilis. Note single dose #doxycycline also found to be successful in preventing #Lyme borreliosis following a tick bite. www.journalofinfection.com/article/S016... Maybe worth it in areas of high infection in ticks, though that's few places in the UK.

A single dose of doxycycline after an ixodes ricinus tick bite to prevent Lyme borreliosis: An open-label randomized controlled trial

Lyme borreliosis is the most prevalent tick-borne disease in the northern hemisphere.1 Over the last decades, marked increases in the incidence of Lyme borreliosis have been reported in several Wester...

The @ukhsa.bsky.social DoxyPEP monitoring framework is now out. Grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this as part of my @nihr.bsky.social Professorship & looking forward to working with colleagues on these studies over the coming years.

As it's in the top 10, here's hoping it has raised awareness. A bit horrifying that only 42% English survey responders would have prescribed doxycycline at the right dose. But maybe when faced with a case now, they would consult @nicecomms.bsky.social. Have to hope!

Thanks! We do not know much about the micro-ecology of vectors&reservoirs (Lyme). Using his-res vegetation does not work: researchers collected the tick at low res. for many years (eg. 1 km. res.). We need high-res records and data. Also, the lack of homogeneous data for hunting, conservation, etc.

Fascinating and with surprising UK results, though we notice the careful word "tendency"! Thank you for the work and glad you enjoyed it. The other factors such as nature conservation may be more difficult to analyse as I guess data harder to come by.

The main point when you are semi-retired is the spare time to explore what is still seating in your mind. I've enjoyed exploring this. A tipping point of climate in Europe, around half 1980's, could govern the trend of spread of Ixodes ricinus in parts of the continent. rdcu.be/e2Jwm 🧪

Pain systems in the brain light up when people are rejected. Would this amplify pain of people with post treatment #Lyme disease? They are rejected, not investigated & not even considered to have a real problem. @liverpooluni.bsky.social seems to have abandoned the area. @benedictneuro.bsky.social
