I fully support controls to protect our children online, such as age verification, but a complete ban just pushes the problem somewhere else. What about the ability to buy knives, alcohol and drugs online without age verification? This is a much wider issue than just social media

UK consulting on banning social media for under-16s. I’m not sold on a blanket ban. A hybrid seems better: ban under-13s, and for 13–16s enforce strong age checks, limits and parental controls. Parents may evade, but overall the harms outweigh the benefits for our next generation
