another one of my silly fics 🤓 this time my wol meade x erenville and its part of a longer au where they spend a lot of time in tural exploring

Out in the fields in Wachunpelo, Erenville brushed snags and burrs out of the fur of his alpaca. The Warrior of Light was not far off, helping the stablehands carry in fresh bags of straw from the vendors. She’d left her alpaca in Erenville's care as well, having brushed it too hard and nearly incurring the creature's ire. Despite the broad range of tasks Meade had handled in her career thus far, she confessed she'd never quite gotten down handling things gently.

She returned and watched mildly from a spot in the grass, letting the wind carry her hair and her attention any which way. When Erenville felt her eyes land on him while he picked through his task, he’d look to find her head turned elsewhere: alpacas grazing, stablehands leaned against the fences and enjoying the sun.

As he worked she remained mostly quiet. Erenville knew the habits of living creatures well, and Meade was no meaningful exception--it was obvious she did not like being idle. But there was not much else for her to do that wouldn't require instruction, and she was nervous to try the brush again.

“The alpacas were irritated from before,” Erenville said. “From when we had to outrun that lobo.”

Meade continued to stare into the distance. Eventually she said, “You understand them so well.”

“I should hope so, having done this for so long. Beastkin have easier signs. Imagine trying to tell if a wavekin or vilekin was displeased…”

Meade appeared to be imagining it. An idea came to her visibly. “It'd be easier if everything spoke.”

Erenville frowned. “And much less interesting. And very noisy.”

“It wouldn't be so bad. I've met some cloudkin that spoke back on the First. They were very kind.”

At first Erenville regarded that with no special attention. Of all the fauna he knew, cloudkin “spoke”. That overgrown kolibri on the Isle of Haam was a recent example. But he was not one to discount the absurdity of the things she had experienced. He often knew what she said to be true, if a bit understated.

“‘Spoke’, you say?”

“Yea, these cloudkin called ‘amaro’. People use them to get around--like chocobos. And after years and years some of them start to speak.”

“That's quite interesting,” Erenville said honestly. “Do you know why?”

“Magic, I think,” Meade said after a moment.

“Of course,” Erenville sighed.

“Perhaps that theory you told me about…with the mehwahpyarras…”

“Ancestral levitational predisposition.”

“Well, now we can call it ancestral conversational predisposition.”

Erenville groaned.

i forgot i started writing a post-pandaemonium erichthonios char study-like fic over a yr ago after i played it wtf.. somewhat erichthonios/themis "if you squint"bc i love genfic vague romance more than anything.. the last img is my notes lolol??

The halls of Pandaemonium were much quieter now. The facility being all Erichthonios really knew, he felt the change keenly, but could not place it--something alongside the recent loss of both keywards and creations. They were currently going through reconstruction. He saw more of his fellow workers around than before, and delighted in being busy with the restorations; but the halls echoed in the nights, and he often found himself alone.

Lahabrea was one of those he saw more frequently. Mostly in his formal capacity as chief keyward, which despite everything came as a relief. He had no expectations for anything warmer and was unsure how he'd react if it happened, though the thought occasionally nipped at him. It was common for him to be told he felt too much--too strongly--but he had long left behind the folly of wanting affection from his father. Recent events had conspired to shame him for wanting affection at all, but that wound was fresher, and he kept it out of his mind.
