This was good! Not my fav in the series, but a solid read. And it definitely didn't conclude anything, so my only hope is many more Ana & Din mysteries to come...
Okay now nobody bother me for 5-7 business days (unless you want to hire me)
I became a Shakespeare nerd because the first play of his I read in school was Twelfth Night instead of one of the tragedies. There are valid reasons to have kids read serious books. But why is that ALL they get to read in school?
I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?

Started playing The Mermaid Mask, a couple of hours in, I love it. It's so fun. The voice acting is <chef's kiss> and I love Sally with my whole heart.
I was gonna wait to buy The Mermaid Mask until I had time to play it but the reviews are so good so yeah, bought it. Tangle Tower was SO much fun (and had my terrible wife, Detective Hawkshaw). I can't wait to play the sequel!!
Happy Book Birthday to Kendra's Real Hero Shit: Harder Than It Looks! I just finished reading and volume 2 is such a step up from volume 1. If you want a queer as hell romp through a unique fantasy world and a group of chucklefucks with TRAUMA, please read this series. It really is that good.
REAL HERO SHIT: HARDER THAN IT LOOKS is out today!!!!! 👹🗡️ Happy birthday to my biggest, baddest book yet. I am so immensely proud of how this turned out, it was a massive labor of love that has been a very long time coming. ❤️

If you like math rocks HIGHLY recommend Jess!! I am incredibly biased but have also bought a lot of her dice
Hey friends! I’m back making dice now that I finally have my workspace set up, but that means I’ll need to make room in my shop! I’ve got a sale running this week, so please help me get rid of some good click clacks :) legendloredice.etsy.com #dnd #dnddice
As a chronically ill person, being able to stay with the same doctors over a long period of time is necessary if I'm going to keep my conditions managed. So even if I DO get a new job, my doctors might not take the new insurance. Tying health insurance to employment is untenable.
About 24% of U.S. employees stay in unwanted jobs just for health insurance, a report out Wednesday finds. Up significantly since 2021, the uptick in "job lock" is a concerning sign for the U.S. economy. n.pr/4gQIY5E
While we're talking about awesome translations of ancient epics may I introduce you to Maria Dahvana Headley's Beowulf that completely reimagines Grendel's mom It's very good

Two exciting games released last week: a detective sequel and a meta-layered escape room!
This hasn't been my year for fantasy reading (not a single 5-star read so far T_T), so putting out a call for recommendations! What's a recent fantasy book that really worked for you?
Got so annoyed watching a Return of the Obra Dinn stream that I redownloaded the game to give it another try. I might still ragequit it again when I start feeling too dumb, but for now I'm having a good time!
If you liked Babel by RF Kuang or Blood Over Bright Haven by ML Wang, highly recommend checking out The Language of Liars by SL Huang. It's a sci-fi novella about language/translation as oppression and had a reveal that shocked me in the best way. Also it broke my 5-star drought! Highly recommend.
Not sure if this will get to the right people, but: I loved Avowed. It was my favorite game I played last year. It was so much fun, the writing was so good, and the characters were amazing. Even the smallest choices felt impactful. I would've played a sequel in a heartbeat. I'm so so sorry.
Instead of dream projects, highly recommend cultivating a list of your dream people you've worked with. You're way more likely to work with them again than on a dream project. :)
Very few (close to zero) career gamedevs realistically get to choose what games they end up working on. Working on a cool and/or successful game is not an inherent reflection of the skills of the individual in question.
Hey all, In light of... everything my current contract will be ending on July 31. If you know of any senior writer or narrative designer roles please send them my way. www.linkedin.com/in/macleoh/

As someone who only just paid off my student loans, this is incredible and I want more places to follow suit. Money should not be what stands between you and an education.

me: if I lose my job I don't have any transferable skills my partner: ...you're a writer. you could write anything. me: (whines) but I don't WANT to tho repeat every 2-3 business days
I've had multiple friends move for a job and get laid off within the next 3 months.
And what's hilarious is that Game Companies ™️ are still requiring folks to move to work at their studio. Lol absolutely not. No no no. Don't do it. Not worth it.
happy to be known for this everybody should watch For All Mankind on Apple
Finally started watching “for all mankind” which means that I keep wanting to tweet at @macleodholdfast.bsky.social to say “oh holy cow you weren’t kidding this is good as hell.”

The Summer game flood is upon us, and we're all catching our breath from a couple of weeks of machine gun style announcements. So... which was your favorite? What game has you the most excited? +5 points if its an indie! -100,000 points if it uses GenAI! Choose... wisely. :)

I know I say this every few months or so but DropoutTV continues to be the best streaming service out there, it's worth every penny
Put all my Steam games on a spinner wheel and picked one at random: Many Nights a Whisper is a lovely, contemplative game that's short to play but packs a punch. I didn't "win" and yet it felt right. Great writing, intriguing worldbuilding (just enough, not too much). I really liked it!

The first collection of Thyme Travellers is one of my all-time favorite anthologies of speculative fiction out there. Highly recommend! Can't WAIT to read the next one.
This is not a joke. Thyme Travellers: An Anthology of Palestinian Speculative Fiction will be an ongoing series! And we’re open to submissions for the second volume starting today: soniasulaiman.com/thyme-travel...
