A Thursday is as good a day as any to remind you that I have a game in prelaunch on Kickstarter. It's called Violent Delights. In it, you use a chessboard and its pieces to re-envision the masquerade scene of Romeo and Juliet. When characters clash, play the scene with a Firebrands mini-game.

I'm not saying it doesn't HAPPEN, but "all weird indie TTRPGs are a kink thing" is reductive. There is also "designing RPGs to publish your worldbuilding bible", "designing RPGs because you invented a neat dice trick", "designing RPGs to win an argument", and "designing RPGs as an act of self harm".
