Saw a post asking about how do artists make friends with other artists and my gut reaction was, ”Well that’s the fun part. You don’t!” Maybe it’s just my experience, but convention artists are more in the category of “coworker” than friend. Like, we don’t really hang out beyond conventions.
Finished all my work that needed to get done before gencon but now left feeling sort of empty in that I don’t have any creative plans past the event so now it’s like, ”oh gawd it’s all over for me! I’ll never create again!”
I've been feeling sort of melancholic about being at gen con this year. Like I always do well sales wise, but haven't been able to land any long term contracts since my last graphic novel gig in 2022. Sort of leaves me worried for the future I guess since cons are only a portion of my income.
It’s crazy how DM notifications illicit such different reactions from me depending on the site we‘re on. Like a DM from tumblr is like, “oh great, another bot begging for money” while a DM from bsky is at least like, “ooo! What could it be?! How exciting!”
Ah. The last class of my mentorship is next week huh? There’s a sort of melancholy about it ending and a sort of dread that comes with the realization that I don’t have any work lined up for afterwards
Maybe I’m too negative a person, but the new avatar series doesn’t inspire anything in me to watch it. Hope I’m wrong.
