Stigma arises when people are marked as ‘other’ based on characteristics that fall outside the widely accepted norms, leading to bullying. Stigmatised identities can be socially constructed and wielded as a form of power to marginalise and control certain groups. #Autism #Identity

The youngest member of the team is Sherlock Bones, he is an excellent investigative researcher. Sherlock loves a good puzzle and regularly engages with research in new and creative ways. He is a dynamo and we are lucky to have him. Outside of research Sherlock loves to destroy socks.

The second member of the team is Maisie, she has four years of research experience. Maisie is interested in Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis & loves a double hermeneutic. Maisie is interested in autistic lived experiences. When she's not reading Maisie loves a good run through mucky puddles.

By way of introduction.. this is my research team.. starting with Cú, an Irish Wolfhound who has a distinct interest in intersectionality, autistic identity and phenomenology. She has a keen eye for a good quality paper and as you can see she is sometimes surprised by what she reads!

Sometimes the researcher's lived experience aligns closely with the focus of the study and in occupying the role of researcher, parts of the self also become a part of the research? The two can't always be neatly separated... can they?

Writing and rewriting today, trying to be clear! "Autistic identity is a site of epistemic resistance, education is a practice of freedom (hooks, 1994) & the existence of autistic academics creates possibilities for transformative inclusion that shifts ways of being and knowing in higher education."
