I'm pretty anti-gun and good lord this is dumb. 1. Having worked in law enforcement for many years, their willingness to take aggressive action often depends on whether they believe anyone there will have a gun, or multiple guns. Cops are people too, they don't want to die taking a door.

Not sure Fauci's invocation of the Fifth Amendment would hold up in court if it came to it. Blanket invocations are highly disfavored; any crime would almost certainly be past the statute of limitations; and he received a preemptive presidential pardon to boot.

Favorite Ross Douthat story is that he was the only dissenting voice at the NYT in 2017 correctly warning James Bennet not to run the op-ed accusing Sarah Palin of inciting the Gabrielle Giffords shooting, but because he was Ross Douthat, they ignored him and ran it anyway.

You could say "we don't see the perspective of the victims enough" about any anti-war movie. Platoon, Paths of Glory, All Quiet on the Western Front, Dr. Strangelove. Your story has to have main characters and that can't be everyone affected by the war, so someone inevitably has to be left out.

I do want to pick apart this observation in Emily Wilson's review: "we are not shown that war and killing are bad." This is an odd point to me, given that I found the entire war as presented to be a squalid, poisoned event that has brought everyone involved with it harm despite its glorification

I join the majority opinion and write separately to address two additional points. First, Mahdawi frames his habeas claim as a challenge to his detention rather than his removal. The majority opinion correctly concludes that his claim actually challenges his removal. See ante at 24. But even if Mahdawi’s framing were correct—and his claim represented a bona fide challenge to his detention—the federal courts would still lack jurisdiction over this case. Pursuant to 8 U.S.C. § 1226(e), the federal courts may not review a discretionary detention decision of the Attorney General. And that bar on judicial review does not violate the Suspension Clause. Second, Mahdawi failed to exhaust the available administrative remedies before seeking relief from a federal court. Even if there were jurisdiction to consider Mahdawi’s habeas petition, therefore, the lack of exhaustion would require his petition to be dismissed or at least stayed until those remedies are exhausted.

BREAKING: The Odyssey is FAKING ticket sales by buying up theaters/seats (Fraud) to make the movie look like a success (already $400 million in the hole) moviegoers are reporting having to take terrible seats (because full) but when they show up the theaters are mostly empty.

There has not been a single ICE agent killed nationwide since Trump took office. It is objectively the safest job a person can possibly have. That one of them somewhere is eventually going to die from putting a fork in an electrical socket or taking benzos with alcohol will not change that.
