I make comics, a Viking era one called the Hogback Saga and Malky Dungeon about a Scottish occult detective https://www.patreon.com/malkydungeon

I dont know if its because most of my patreons have been following me on social media since the guid auld days but I'm always in awe when i dont lose any when I have a depression gap

Since yer aw dying tae know my top ten tv shows ... I Claudius, the Sopranos, Edge of Darkness, Twin Peaks, Granada TV Sherlock Holmes, Deadwood, The Singing Detective, Sapphire and Steel, Cadfael, Tinker tailor Soldier Spy

bought a new biography about MR James, all the stuff about upper class Victorian era boarding schools is a hard read tbh felt like some kind of From Hell incantation where the spirit of jimmy savile flows through everything in this country for century after century

that Ocarina of time remake looks hideous ... actually made me think about it in the context of that redundant silent hill 2 remake where the limitations of technology in the original game actually led to much stronger art design and atmosphere over fidelity to "realism"

sort of hypocritical since I do like wearing historical replicas of pendants but it does my nut in trying to look up research on historical items and art and all the results are just modern merchandise

Probably would have been drier to swim, but the site of the viking burial mound at Kingscross Point, overlooking Lamlash Bay on Arran, is worth the trek. A furnished cremation grave was excavated here in 1909, and has been dated to the mid/late ninth century

A photo of the viking burial site at Kingscross Point, Lamlash, Arran, during a cloudy, rainy day. Holy Isle is visible in the bay, and the cloud-covered Goatfell range is seen in the distance.

being at work and having someone randomly whispering at me about someone astral projecting into an eagle to mate with another eagle and how this was wrong made me feel like i was in game of thrones and also added onto the time I needed to recharge to be amongst people again considerably

@downham.bsky.social Hey there I was working on a wee talk about Strathclyde and was trying to check, do you think the mention of the king of the Norwegians raiding Strathclyde in the Fragmentary Annals of Ireland is a Norse king from the Irish sea zone rather than the literal king of Norway?

Great promo artwork for tomorrow's event by the very talented Simon Dickie. You can virtually taste the malicious intent of the poison-pen letter writer! The 1820's in Govan must have been something else! Join us to discover the Vinegar Letters scandal. 🎟 FREE tickets on Eventbrite 🔗 LINK below ⤵️

biggest dilemma for giving a talk that touches on Norse myth for the sake of clarity and simplicity do I just refer to the Jotnar as giants even though I disagree with that interpretation in general

still finding it tricky to sum up kennings in a succinct and clear manner, I don't know it would be best just presenting a couple of simple examples before moving on ...
