Stromatolites are layered rocks produced by the growth of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). The cyanobacteria form a sticky mat to which sediment adheres, and as sediment builds up, the bacterial mat grows up through it, forming layer upon layer, and often developing into a series of mounds.

Raised on her grandfather’s farm, E. Cora Hind moved to Winnipeg in 1882, where she applied for a job at the Free Press. Told by W.F. Luxton, the editor at the time, that the “newspaper was no place for a girl”, Cora started her own hustle independently reporting on farming conventions and meetings.

Today we’re cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the annual Banjo Bowl! This pin is from the Blue Bombers’ 1952 Grey Cup winning season. Founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Rugby Football Club, the Bombers have been part of the Canadian Football League (CFL) since the league’s creation in 1958.

The Manitoba Museum is CLOSED to the public for the next week for our annual Cleaning Week! Until September 18, we will be deep cleaning the Museum, and doing behind-the-scenes tidying and archiving. We look forward to welcoming you back to a spick and span Museum on September 19!

The Manitoba Museum's annual Cleaning Week is coming up, which means we will be CLOSED from Sep. 12 to 18. We will be deep cleaning the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery, and doing some behind-the-scenes tidying and archiving. We look forward to welcoming you back on Sep. 19!
