This is nonsense: deposits are liabilities of banks, and when customers shift to stablecoins the deposits are just transferred to other banks (where stablecoin issuers are clients). After all, if stablecoin issuers are in the monetary union area they issue stablecoins in return for deposits..

This will probably not cause shock and awe on the EU's side. Not b/c this TACO strategy is predictable and wearing thin; but because by accepting Trumps language (calling everything "deals" instead of treaties or agreements) the expectation that he will rescind is already baked in.

Reading this, I have two thoughts: 1) Are we really better off to include ever more financial intermediaries with profit motive in a system that is essentially based on solidarity (i.e. the current working generation pays for the current retirees), not on investment portfolio "performance"?
