Happy Wednesday, #writers! Got questions? Need tips on #querying or #writing or #revising? Please reply and ask me anything. I'm here and happy to help! #StarlingLit

Hello #amquerying writers! I wanted to share a quick update. I got so many AMAZING queries since opening Starling—over 1,000. I also had surgery last week so I'm unfortunately behind in my QB. I'm trying to catch up, and I appreciate your patience. I am seeing some wonderful stuff!

#QueryTip Agents receive multiple queries everyday, including holidays. We have to read our queries on top of our other reading: client manuscripts, contracts, etc. Because I read so many, I have to read quickly and make fast decisions. If something doesn’t grab me, I have to pass 1/?

The world is full of uncertainty right now, and many of us look to books as a way to escape--hence the current popularity of romantasy, romance, etc. But I agree that kids need to see themselves reflected on the page. I love those stories, and I welcome them. Please send them to me. #querytip

Are we in a word of escapism now for kids and publishing? I mean, how do you handle realism and resilience in kid lit today? Should we not write about homeless, hungry kids? Or how do you do that for kids? Or not at all?

How fun is this? A cover reveal for my book, NOW THAT WE DON’T TALK coming out in Oct from Scholastic. Thank you Yaoyao Ma Van As for the art and Maithili Joshi for the cover design. Can’t wait to share this fun story about two dogs who conspire to “parent trap” their feuding owners.

Whoosh! What a fun hour! Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope I provided helpful advice and also encouragement. Publishing is not for the faint of heart. You are brave for embarking on this journey. Keep the faith. I'm rooting for you! Please join me again next Wednesday! Good night!
