Smallbits: Pixelated icons on a 8×8 grid | Product Hunt
Most icon sets give you flexibility. Smallbits does the opposite. Every icon is designed on an 8×8 grid – 64 pixels, no more. The constraint is the concept: what's the minimum an icon needs to still b...

“The best process is the one that works.” – love that
In 15 years as a product designer, I've seen early-career designers struggle with the gap between tidy processes and messy, real work. Inspired by this observation, I recently gave a guest lecture to design students at the University of Canterbury about navigating this gap, read on about it below.
Amicons existed for 1.5 years without a website 🤦♂️ Finally built one in 8 days with Framer! Good enough to launch, perfect enough to improve. What do you think? Also... Amicons 2.0 is 60% done 👀 amicons.design

6 months. 289 icons. 2,378 meticulously crafted variants. I had been recently invited by Wayflyer to extend their icons into a robust icon system with multiple sizes and styles, building on top of Moniker's brilliant and original icon work. What do you think?
I’m losing my shit over Figma Draw! You can now create sketchy, hand-drawn icons directly in Figma! It’s perfect timing, too – I have been brainstorming for a while now how to tackle the potential Amicons Sketch style for @amicons.design 😇 OMG CAN’T WAIT TO USE IT
Just playing around with Jitter. It's pretty amazing when you need to whip up a quick animation. Here, I’m trying to showcase all the different icon styles in my set in one juicy, loopy animation. A bit too fast, if you ask me, but hey – at least I gave it a shot!
Wait a minute… This definitely didn’t work in Figma before – subtracting stroked shapes used to ignore the strokes entirely. But now? Game-changer. No more storing live stroke versions or outlining for days. It’s all live! Next: responsive icons. Stay tuned.
Western society: “We’re dying off! We need higher birth rates! People should have more children!” Also Western society: “That’ll be €2,400 a month for daycare.”
Just wrapped up a big client project – which means I’m open for new icon design work! 🔷 Icon sets & systems 🔷 Variable icon families 🔷 App icons 🔷 Motion design If you or someone you know needs custom icons, feel free to reach out.
Client: I need an icon set with multiple visual styles that will work in light and dark mode. Me:
The paradox of having to work overtime just to afford life (including daycare), but not being able to because daycare is way too expensive and so you can’t work and have to stay at home but then you can’t work… How are families, especially single parents, supposed to win in a system like this?
Some people used the end of the year to take a break, tinker with some relaxing crafty fun projects, read some books or magazines, update their portfolios… Some people have kids.
Kendrick is insane. I was listening to "squabble up" when it hit me: "I feel good, get the fuck out my *faaa-aa-ace* Look good, but she don't got no *taaa-aa-aste*" It's the GOAT flow 🐐 🤯
Seasoned designers work on instinct, and so they move fast. But don’t mistake instinct for subjectivity. It’s a skill honed over thousands of hours, grounded in millions of tiny rational steps. The difference? Instinct gets the job done instantly, without needing to spell out every step.
