I've always been a writer and artist, and I've also always been a farmer. Our new paper out in Agriculture and Human Values was something a little different for me -- my first venture into social research -- and allowed me to explore farmer experiences using artistic methods.

Still finding it confusing to be year-round gardening here in Tasmania. Stole some time from my research to give to the lettuce bed this weekend.

Just had to smile when I read the iNat newsletter this month... I knew our paper would be featured but I didn't expect to see another Nova Scotian! Super interesting work, Jeff!

Our paper documenting the arrival of Manila clams (Ruditapes philippinarum) on the east coast of North America is out! The arrival of this species here marks the presence of this species on every major coast in the northern hemisphere—a truly circumglobal species.

Huge thanks to all the @inaturalist.bsky.social users who contributed their photos and identification expertise. We used thousands of photos of this super common species -- I want to emphasize how valuable every observation is, no matter how mundane it may seem! So excited to have this out :)

Today I heard news that a paper I've been working on since I was 21 years old has been accepted! This project has seen me through my entire early 20s 😅

Creatures of the weekend. We saw thousands of soldier crabs!

Our friend is finishing up his PhD and jetting off to Germany soon. An attempt at German birds for a goodbye card. Germany's a lucky place to be getting him!

Getting used to the new garden. This is today's bounty. Also starting some seeds, planted some raspberries, and dug up a huge Mexican sage :) The gooseberry will become chutney, beans and chard into a stew, rosemary hung to dry, rhubarb for pie!

Getting to know my new neighbours. And hit 6000 observations on iNat!

Highlight of my 3-day airport floor sleeping tour is this (sadly invasive) slug on the sidewalk outside IHOP in Hawaii. They're pretty gorgeous. I've yet to see a native Hawaiian animal on my two 12-hour layovers in the state, but granted I'm mostly at the IHOP while there.

Had a blast with Dad, the Canadian Cattle Association folks, and our lovely MP Alana Hirtle this week. Bit of a blur meeting ministers and also some really cool fellow farmers. Now on my way back to Tassie! I stole these photos from the ag minister's account
