PhD Researcher, Maynooth University | Criminology | Penology | Researching lived experiences of female imprisonment in Ireland

It was great to attend, and present at the Prison Working Group Meeting in Vienna, Austria! I presented initial findings from my ongoing PhD research. I discussed the experiences of prison staff working in Ireland's new female prison, which continues to remain Ireland's most overcrowded prison.

Really enjoyed being a part of an Early-Career Researcher Panel at #MaynoothCrimCon PhD Training Day, organised by Dr Ian Marder. I reflected on lessons I have gained from researching & working w/ women & men in prison which will inform my upcoming fieldwork in Ireland's Female Prisons.

Grateful to participate in & coordinate the Story Exchange with MU students & men in Wheatfield Prison. Developing empathy through storytelling was a powerful experience where we could share stories, discover our many similarities, learn from eachother & break barriers formed by prison walls.

I am proud to have assisted Joe Garrihy & Ciara Bracken-Roche w/ this report which represents the first Irish empirical research on HEI admissions policies & practices for PWCs. Drawing on narratives of PWCs & HEI staff, 10 recommendations are presented to improve education access for PWCs.
