I usually hate defending airlines, but it’s funny that everyone understands that luxury isn’t cheap until it comes to air travel. Aviation is a super low-margin industry. Prices would skyrocket if the median passenger experience resembled a midcentury magazine ad

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

My alma mater has scholarships for anyone with a good GPA and standardized test scores. So do many other public universities and community colleges. Parents are better off investing in tutoring instead of sports if college is what they’re worried about

the obsession with trans women in sports is, apart from the abject bigotry, a symptom of how we take amateur sports participation way too seriously in this country.

I love this make believe world that Serious, Intellectual Conservatives live in where Texas is forcing the Bible into public school English out of reverence for the Western canon and not to move full speed ahead on Christian nationalism

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com “There is nothing inherently conservative about the idea of a stipulated reading list, nor about the belief that children need to be exposed from an early age to great works of literature and to history taught chronologically,” writes James Traub.

Glad I have a father who would storm my house with a [redacted] if he ever found out I was being physically abused by a man. This isn’t meant to be smug or anything, a lot of women do not

God it’s every day here in Phoenix too. Sometimes my college classes next to University drive in Tempe were interrupted by them. Noise from illegally-modified vehicles is a quality of life issue I’d love to see cities address

Every single person who rides an ostentatiously noisy motorbike can just fuck off. Those who do so in London or any town or city, and especially those who use chainsaw-volume engine revving as a “warning” can then fuck off all over again.
