During the #napoleonicwars and other conflicts of the early #19thcentury , Great Britain captured over 100.000 prisoners of war. Specially those taken early in the conflict, spent many years on British soil or shore.

It all started with a #gift. A six year old boy in #Hamburg had the flu and his mother brought him a little present to cheer him up. It was a 1:1250 scale miniature of a coastal freighter #ship, made by the modelling company Wiking. A #holidays Thread.

The original yard model of Bibby WaveMaster Horizon was donated. At some earlier point, the model suffered some transport damage. Our colleague Frédéric Lebas has taken the best care of it during a restoration work. As you can see in the pictures, the model is now good as new. Now about the #ship:

This week we made an update on deck 2 of the #maritime #museum #hamburg by installing a new #shipmodel in our 18th and 19th century #sailing section. More information on the #ship and #scalemodel will be posted soon. Stay tuned!

This little coastal freighter had a rather eventful #history for a #ship of her kind, and quite an sad ending. She had an overall length of 66,5 m, a beam of 10,3 m and a capacity of just 744 GRT. A #maritime thread:

Our work with the historical archive of the towing company Bugsier has produced a new display that can now be enjoyed by our visitors on deck 9 of the museum! Follow the thread for their #history.

On November the 15th we will be opening a small #exhibition on deck 2 dedicated to the centenary of the #Chilehaus, one of the most iconic buildings of #Hamburg. The exhibition starts with an introduction of how the businessman Henry B. Sloman came to have the Chilehaus built.
