5 million could have been spent on more permanent shovel ready projects across the city, especially in areas of the city with little active mobility or other place making infrastructure. This is pretending that we don't already shovel money into the downtown core hoping investors do their thing.

Was Vancouver City Council’s decision to extend the Granville Street Pedestrian Zone beyond the World Cup a “mistake?” Despite its popularity with businesses, residents, etc, some in the media, and a city councillor, have suggested that. Here’s how I responded to a media post on the other site.

Okay, where is the mode filtering from knight, Fraser and main streets onto the Masumi Mitsui greenway @cityofvancouver.bsky.social ? The easiest thing you could do to make this route safer for active mobility, and yet you decided to pave the street instead and make it faster for drivers.

I may not have many american friends who I've met with in person, but when there is a major shooting in their town, I sure as hell check in on them.

Look,I’m generally for painted bike lanes(they designate a space, so when you go to put in a permanent separated one there’s far less pushback, but you have to build the culture to support them if you’re not going to have a physical barrier. if that means ticketing folks like this, then so be it.

Hot take: emotos wouldn’t be nearly as much of an issue(it’s barely one now) if cities had invested in separated micromobility routes over the past 20 years. Teenagers aren’t buying them- their parents are because they’re more reliable than public transit.

Every time I ride the Dundas to renfrew section of portside it’s abundantly clear why the initial funding for portside is being directed to a section that is already far better than most greenways in the city- and it’s not because the road is bad or there is too much car traffic.

One bright side to the Killarney fifa practice venue is that when the teams are there, the motorcade just hangs out on 45th- which is a bikeway. I’ve never seen so many drivers go the speed limit and respect cyclists on this road- there’s no other modal filters or anything to discourage driving.

It’s insane that it’s 2026, and the city still doesn’t have a connector or signage to from the Masumi Mitsui greenway to the arbutus greenway.
